James Madison, the father of our constitution, explained, “If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the general welfare, the government is no longer a limited one possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one subject to particular exceptions.” He later added, “With respect to the two words ‘general welfare,’ I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.” Thomas Jefferson said, “Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.” That means only those powers listed.

Local TEA Party leaders today expressed concern over what they perceive to be Rep. Mike Ross’s last-minute cave-in on health care reform to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman. Ross and other supposedly conservative Blue Dog Democrats had held their ground against the trillion-dollar socialized medicine scheme until Wednesday, when Ross announced “an agreement has been reached.”

The fact is completely CLEAR! The U.S. Government has NO LEGAL AUTHORITY to provide insurance PERIOD. This responsibility is “reserved” to the States respectively, or to the people. Most, if not all, INDEPENDENT and sovereign State Constitutions have “ENUMERATED” powers and therefore are not authorized, by We The People who wrote, established and ordained The Constitution on our Government/s, to provide health insurance nor any other insurance. There are VERY GOOD important freedom, liberty and massively economic impacting reasons for this. Additionally, the tax hike that is supposed to pay for $540 billion of Obama’s “cost-saving” plan will itself cost an estimated 4.7 million jobs, according to a recent report by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). How, exactly, would these massive layoffs reduce the cost of coverage, to say nothing of assisting in our nation’s “economic recovery?”
