As each of these first resolutions was adopted by the Assembly, they were loudly and spontaneously celebrated by the assembled Delegates, with jubilant energy and great emotion at the emergence of these first acts of nationally organized resistance to emerge from the Congress.   If these initial resolutions are any indication, the Congress clearly has set its collective intent to adopting a volume of provocative and far-reaching “Remedial Instructions” and “Civic Actions” to restore the Constitution, and which effects will soon reverberate from sea-to-shining-sea. Watch the live webcast, see the video archives & donate to help fund the CC2009 event: To obtain the .999 pure silver CC2009 Commemorative Medallion, click on this  special WTP e-store link The Income Tax Instruction to the United States Congress adopted by the Continental Congress cites several essential facts in U.S. law, including irrefutable documentation establishing that the 16th Amendment is void, ab initio, due to its failure to be properly ratified, and that any direct, un-apportioned tax on the labor of any American is wholly unconstitutional.  The resolution cites the U.S. Supreme Court holding that labor (and the fruits thereof) are, “…the most sacred and inviolable” property of the citizens of the nation.  (Citing Butcher’s Union Co. v. Crescent City Co., 111 U.S. 746, 757)    The tax resolution also calls for Congress to execute the immediate cessation of the (unlawful) imposition of the practice of withholding of earnings from the paychecks of American citizens and for the Congress to immediately release and restore all citizens wrongfully imprisoned as a result of the “unconstitutional application of the income tax” (laws).  The Civic Actions recommended by the Congress for the People to end the Income Tax fraud include for the People to contact their local sheriff and demand cooperation with the citizenry to provide protection from (unlawful) federal and state tax enforcement actions (including fraudulent, non-judicial “administrative” IRS liens and levys), that citizens prepare to replace or otherwise recall or impeach any sheriff who refuses to protect their local citizens from “…rogue federal agents acting under color of law,” and for citizens to prepare themselves to withhold their monies as a means to secure Redress.  As to the Second Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the resolution of the Continental Congress declares that all regulations, state and federal, which are repugnant to the express language of the Second Amendment are “…null and void – including but not limited to, illegal and unconstitutional restrictions on open and/or concealed carry.”  The arms resolution calls for the citizenry to coordinate with their local county Sheriff in establishing a Constitutional Militia, inherently separate from the state National Guard.  Such militia would be a constitutional defense force, “comprising all citizenry capable of bearing arms and under proper authority, in defense of themselves and the states.”  Official copies of these resolutions and others will be released shortly for public inspection and distribution.  Committee and sub-committee work on “Remedial Instructions” for state and federal officials will by decree, end at midnight Wednesday (Nov. 18).  Starting tomorrow (Thursday) , the Congress begins two and a half days of intense deliberations, turning their sole attention to debating and adopting a comprehensive set of potent “Civic Actions” every American can implement, en masse, to effect a peaceful restoration of Constitutional Order. These lawful, (non-violent) civic actions, (fully lawful and protected by the Right to enforce the First Amendment Right to Petition), will be designed to significantly affect the functioning of both state and federal institutions which have been complicit in enabling or otherwise aiding or allowing the destruction of the Constitution and/or the Fundamental Rights of the People. On Saturday afternoon, the agenda plans for the Delegates set to move to adopt the full package consisting of First Amendment Petitions for Redress of Grievances, “Remedial Instructions” to be served upon state and federal officials, and the slate of “Civic Actions” designed for everyday Americans to implement to resist the tyrants and engage in the battle to restore Liberty.  The final package generated by the Congress will be formally known as the “Articles of Association” and signed (Saturday afternoon) by the Delegates of Continental Congress 2009.  Means are currently being developed for citizens everywhere across America to likewise sign the Articles of Association and join the battle to hold our government accountable to the Law. The current intent for the Articles of Association is that when “x” million (tbd) Americans publicly commit to personally embrace and execute at least some portion of the (peaceful) plan of Civic resistance, the plan of “Civic Actions” will be fully activated and its full effects soon manifest against our errant institutions of government. The Right to Liberty and Freedom from unrestrained acts of Government has been evolving over a long period of time. Key historic milestones have been the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights, our Declaration of Independence and America’s State and Federal Constitutions.  

However, there is one remaining milestone to be achieved before individuals can say, “We are Free”: the ability of the individual to hold government officials accountable when they violate any of the remaining provisions of the Constitution.

No matter the number of enumerated and un-enumerated individual Rights guaranteed by the Constitution, they are meaningless unless, when violated, the individual is able to hold their government officials accountable. It’s well settled in American Jurisprudence that “any Right that is not enforceable is not a Right.”

It is self-evident that individual Rights are eviscerated in the absence of recognition of the individual’s unalienable Right of accountability (enforcement). For that reason, constitutional scholars refer to the Right to hold the government accountable as the “Capstone Right” — the Right that caps all the others.  

While a self-evident Truth, the Founders included a written guarantee of the Right of accountability in the First Amendment, as an absolutely necessary and critical part of the overall balance of power between the People and Government officials. 

However, the Right of accountability has been all but forgotten by the People. Until relatively recently, there has been little cause for them to claim and exercise the Right.  

These are tough times; a struggle of historic proportions is underway between those who do not believe that the rights of the majority are tempered by the minority and the individual under the rule of law and those that do.  

Before Americans can truly say, “The God who has given us Life has given us Liberty” – that is, before the evolution of Liberty can be said to be complete, one elusive milestone needs to be achieved: a clear and resounding demonstration of the individual’s Right to hold government officials accountable to the rest of the Constitution. The result would be an enormous shift of power from the Government back to the People where the ultimate power was meant to reside in the first place.

The mettle of the Constitution is, indeed, tested in tough times. Enter Continental Congress 2009.

If these LAWS were to be fully OBEYED by our Government it would shrink by 4/5ths and the result would be prosperity for the vast majority of our average common working men and women because TRILLIONS on TOP of Trillions of Dollars worth would remain in our hands and in our economy.  And, according to the same document of LAW, The Constitution, our money would return back to gold or silver coin and/or bullion as we wrote in Our Constitution on Government.

We have learned how The Constitution is the answer to our national financial problem and, thereby,  ultimately We The People are the answer to the problem that a scofflaw U.S. Government has created using our own money against us.  We The People MUST ENFORCE our LAWS on ALL THREE BRANCHES of the U.S. Government, word for word.

Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve Board, despite being ordered to disclose to whom it awarded roughly $2 trillion in discount “stimulus” loans, is fighting to keep the information under wraps as a protected “trade secret.”

Earlier this week, a U.S. district court judge rejected the Fed’s argument that the names of borrowers are exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act and ordered the board to release the information by Monday, Aug. 31.

The Fed’s board of governors, however, has now filed a motion asking the judge to delay enforcement of the order, seeking time to appeal and arguing that disclosing which banks borrowed the funds could lead to a backlash from the banks’ customers and stockholders.

Demand the money managers come clean by signing the petition in support of an audit of the Federal Reserve now!

“The immediate release of these documents will destroy the board’s claims of exemption and right of appellate review,” the motion said. “The institutions whose names and information would be disclosed will also suffer irreparable harm.”

Bloomberg LP, which sued the Fed on behalf of its Bloomberg News unit for not complying with a FOIA request last year, disagrees.

“Our argument is that the public interest in disclosure outweighs the banks’ interest in secrecy,” said Thomas Golden, a lawyer who represents Bloomberg.

“What has the Fed got to hide?” said Vermont’s Sen. Bernie Sanders in an email reported by Bloomberg. “The time has come for the Fed to stop stonewalling and hand this information over to the public.”

When the banking system threatened collapse last year, the Fed invoked its emergency lending powers to make discount loans to banks that now total into the trillions of dollars with the intent of stimulating the economy and preventing further financial meltdown. The names of the borrowing institutions were kept anonymous.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Pittman then filed a FOIA request in an attempt to get the Fed to disclose the borrowing banks and to identify the assets it accepted as collateral.

In return, Federal Reserve Board Secretary Jennifer Johnson sent Pittman a five-page response, telling him the Fed was withholding over 2,000 pages of information deemed protected against disclosure as “trade secrets” and “inter-agency or intra-agency memorandums or letters.”

On Nov. 7, 2008, Bloomberg filed a suit seeking full disclosure, and earlier this week, Judge Loretta A. Preska of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, ruled the Fed had until Monday to release the information.

The Fed’s motion to delay enforcement of Preska’s order argues the board’s “ability to effectively manage the current, and any future, financial crisis” would be impaired by releasing the information and “significant harms” could befall the U.S. economy, as disclosure might unsettle shareholders and set off a run on the borrowing banks by worried depositors.

As WND has reported, a majority within the U.S. House called for greater transparency of the Fed by cosigning onto H.R. 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. The Act demands an audit of the Fed, a private institution that virtually controls U.S. interest rates, money supply and other economic influences.

“To understand how unwise it is to have the Federal Reserve, one must first understand the magnitude of the privileges they have,” wrote the bill’s sponsor, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, in a recent Straight Talk commentary. “They have been given the power to create money, by the trillions, and to give it to their friends, under any terms they wish, with little or no meaningful oversight or accountability.”

“The tremendous grass-roots and bipartisan support in Congress for H.R. 1207 is an indicator of how mainstream America is fed up with Fed secrecy,” said Paul. “I look forward to this issue receiving greater public exposure.”

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has also pushed in the Senate for greater transparency at the Fed.

“The Federal Reserve will create and disburse trillions of dollars in response to our current financial crisis,” DeMint said. “Americans across the nation, regardless of their opinion on the bailout, want to know where the money has gone.

“Allowing the Fed to operate our nation’s monetary system in almost complete secrecy leads to abuse, inflation and a lower quality of life,” he said, according to Reuters.

It’s No Wonder

Wallet getting thin?

Forget all the media hype about the national economy.  It’s the family economy that is in a crisis – long predating the current recession (or depression, if you will).  Get a load of these eye-opening figures:

In advance of a Wednesday forum in Washington, the Family Research Council reveals that between 1955 and 1969 U.S. gross domestic product grew by 70 percent, while the median family income all but kept pace at 63 percent growth.

The council continues: “Contrast that 63 percent growth in a decade and a half with what happened over the next three decades: Between 1969 and 2000, the GDP grew by 160 percent, but the median family income grew by only 13 percent – eleven times slower.”

The Liberty Tree Lantern would add this head scratcher:  And, it was after 1969 that women really started entering the workforce for a SECOND “ADDITIONAL” family income?  

And along the way the Federal Reserve / Trilateral Commission instigated “feminism” (Thank you “All in The Family” and “Maude” both produced by the Trilateral Commission member Norman Lear, along with the me, me, me, I, I, I, what you make is ours, what I make is mine self-centered attitude which has not only lowered the median family income growth rate by eleven fold, it ruined the fabric and loving traditional American family units to the point that most families are lucky if they have one meal together in a period of full two weeks.  Talk about taking one step forward and three steps back! 

This Federal Reserve / Trilateral Commission “Mass Behavior Modification” trick of “feminism” to get two people from each family unit to pay income taxes to them through the IRS (MATRIX Agents), instead of just one; while simultaneously tearing apart the principles of virtue necessary for individual freedom and prosperity which facilitated We The People having the time and the inclination to responsibly understand and enforce our laws that we wrote in The Constitution on our Government was an utter success for the 40 mostly foreign private owners (mostly decedents of the old East India Trading Company) of The Federal Reserve cartel of 12 private Big Banks. It now is only a matter of a little time, less than three years, for these megalomaniacs to put the final touches on their plans for a new One World Order / U.N. style Socialist, Communist, Fascist “hybrid” government that they control, where we have nowhere on Earth to run to the individual safety, happiness and prosperity production of freedom and liberty.

 We, as Americans, must find a way to restore the 28 Principles (See: The 5000 Year Leap) and virtues of freedom beginning with our individual families.  We must find away to really find “togetherness” and love in our families, but more importantly between husband and wife / man and woman as opposed to man and “independent” selfish, self-centered feminist.  How are we going to get our “American” (Anti-All In The Family) marriage and family “togetherness” back?  Actually the collapse of The MATRIX will, thank God, force us through necessity to return to these Godly virtues, principles and values.  In what seems like a horror, we will find love for one another again.  Heck, we will even learn to love our neighbor as ourselves through these years of Godly hardship and lesson period that individual prosperity is being reborn through liberty and freedom from oppressive tyrannical Government intervention, “free stuff” and “bringing home the bacon” in our lives.  “Free stuff” that is for more costly than most of us ever realized for at the end of the “free lunch” trail stands the Socialist, Communist, Fascist Devil with his handout for his due.

 I would further note that my wife informed me that in Green Bay, WI house cleaning is costing $20.00 cash under the table.  How can the two parents of a family afford to go to work with the cost of child care plus the cost of house cleaning?  And, what about meals?  Is everyone eating processed “instant” micro-wave type food or the like, instead of wonderful love filled home cooked and less expensive meals?

When The MATRIx collapses (our economy that only exists in our minds that have been programmed to believe that a dollar is worth 100 cents when in the “real” world they are only worth 2 – 3 cents, so in a financial sense no wages, salaries, or any purchases, homes, cars, desks or paper clips have been actually paid for, so they, in a financial sense don’t exist in the “real” world but only as a result of our programmed minds to think that paper and ink printed out of thin air like Monopoly money, by THE FEDERAL RESERVE “SYSTEM”, has value) -  – when The MATRIX collapses and we the people compel the U.S. Government to obey the law that we wrote, established and ordained in The Constitution, we will once again, through necessity, return to our blessed loving American family ways and traditions, with one parent working and after about five years of economic hardship, the vast majority of American families will become wealthy on one income once again.  How?  Because the U.S. Government will be bound by we the people and The Constitution to only handle the “ENUMERATED” list of SEVENTEEN items therein and be forced to obey the 9th and 10th Amendments.  This will result in The U.S. Government collapsing down to only 1/5th its current size and spending, resulting in we the people and our economy getting to keep, save and spend all the rest of our earnings for ourselves. 

You see the TRILLIONS ON TOP OF TRILLIONS of dollars of Monopoly money, that the Federal Reserve (a cartel of 12 privately owned banks that has unconstitutionally, by President Woodrow Wilson and a few unscrupulous Congressmen back in 1913, “fused” in with the U.S. Government and controls our Government through monetary manipulations and the temptation of bottomless pit of “MATRIX” Monopoly money to borrow, will soon, in less than three years, be revalued to its true “real world” value of 2 – 3 cents each.  That will, THANK GOD, destroy the MATRIX which is a prison that you can not see, touch or smell, a prison of the mind.  A prison that zaps our earnings in exchange for more “programming” of what they say is “good for us”; while in reality it is the path down to the valley of darkness, enslavement and poverty in a “hybrid” of Socialism, Communism, and Fascism.

Glory, Glory Halleluiah! 

God, I can’t wait for our economy – The MATRIX – to collapse.  Pray for it people, PRAY…  After a few short years of hunger and hardship, everything will be so much better for all of us Americans and our posterity basking in the light of the principles and virtues necessary in the prosperity of freedom and liberty.

I have looked over the mountain and I have seen The Promised Land.  My eyes have seen the coming of the Glory of The Lord!  Do not fear the collapse of The MATRIX or even a Re-Revolutionary War if it should come to that, which will happen after the “Supernova Effect” that we are well into now.  Just prepare for the collapse of it after millions of people get rehired and start making more than they ever have before.  That is when you will know the collapse of The MATRIX is close at hand; That and after President Obama gives us the “Final Ultimatum” to give up on The Constitution, Freedom, Liberty and our right to keep and bear arms and then, in exchange, he and the new “one world order” will “take care” of us.  We must reject the temptations of the devil and hunger and reject his offer that is soon to come (less than three years).  We can handle hardship, a little hunger and yes even a war if necessary for a few years.  The Godly reward after a short five years of hardship will be far worth it.  – - Capt. People, my message to you today, and I have mentioned this to you before, is that The MATRIX, the economy that only exists in our American minds as we are foolish to actually believe that the dollar is really worth 100 cents when in the “REAL WORLD” outside of our programmed by the public school system, the Main Stream Media, and the U.S. Government minds, it is only worth 2 – 3 cents,  has to be allowed to collapse.  The ONLY way that The MATRIX will not collapse is for us to let our U.S. Government completely usurp our freedom, liberty and unalienable rights and become Socialist, Communist, Fascist slaves under a one Government U.N. style BIG BROTHER welfare State.  And, even then the MATRIX will collapse because when the Government and The Federal Reserve “System” who controls them and who has programmed The MATRIX,  has us under their full and complete power, by the total destruction of The Constitution and the principles of The Declaration of Independence, they will not have to waste their time, effort and money on the costs associated with the maintenance of the sham of The MATRIX, which really is little more than a prison for our minds which enslaves us in that the fruit of our labor is siphoned off primarily by Constitutionally illegal taxation, inflation and Government caused artificially high energy costs when we have oil and gas resources in the hundreds of billions of barrels domestically not to mention reserves of coal which can be burned cleanly, plus we could add to the mix nuclear which has a fabulous safety track record across the world.  Add to these problems that fact that our minds have been programmed to believe that Global Warming, caused by mankind, actually exists and it is no wonder we are giving our freedom, liberty and rights away to the usurpers and despots.  Why NASA has confirmed records that the Earth tempertures have been “diving down” since 2000 and their are several climate scientists that think we are headed to another Ice Age.

Protect your family, home and property.  This is YOUR responsibility.  The Police are not going to be protecting you.  At best they will be neutral, that is IF they are not following orders of the U.S. and/or World U.N. Government.  At worst they will be marching along with the IRS Agents, who actually work for The Federal Reserve company as all Income Taxes has been going  to them to pay for the “public debit for decades,  to take your homes, money, assets, firearms and anything else of value away.  So wise up.
3. If the Obama administration allows oil companies to get the leases they need to explore and drill for oil and gas, the economy will go into what I have coined “The Supernova Effect” where the stock market will explode.  Unfortunately, as the dollar is revalued and corrected to its true value of 2 – 3 cents the ENTIRE stock markets will implode just like a Supernova does after the explosion.  Now if the Obama Administration, through their Secretary of The Interior, Salazar, continues to refuse to let out drilling leases for offshore, western, Alaska and other land regions, where we have hundreds of Billions of barrels of crude oil and vast resources of natural gas, than the economy (The MATRIX) will just totally tank and collapse right from here AND we will have inflation like that shown in the videos above.

Before the Supernova collapses or before the dollar starts going into the final major collapse, your better be well out of all dollar based assets and into some sort of commodity like gold, silver other precious metals, or other hard assets.  Food stock that you can store over long periods will be especially valuable.  During the Great Depression a man became a millionaire by buying up thousands of hotdogs and using them for money by bartering them.
5. I am predicting that the collapse of the dollar will occur in less than three years.  It could be in just a few months.  You need to be watching AND UNDERSTANDING the news.  I will try to keep you informed.
6. I would be watching and recording Glenn Beck on The Fox Cable News Channel if I were you.  He is really doing a great job of reporting things that are happening and inviting very knowledgeable people on his program to explain things.
7. Read, study and understand The Constitution, The Declaration of Independence and all the writings of our Founding Fathers so that you understand how things are supposed to be for yourself and teach it to your family.  The Government is supposed to ANSWER to us, We The People, not the other way around like it is becoming.  We are supposed to be INDIVIDUALLY free and each have our unalienable rights protected from other people and especially protected from the masses, the majority and especially from The U.S. Government.  That is why we DO NOT HAVE A DEMOCRACY, but rather a REPUBLIC.  A democracy is where the majority steals from and oppresses the minority by simple vote and power by shear numbers and votes.  Politicians “bring home the bacon” and give away “free stuff” and bring home projects and jobs for “good money” from the Federal Government and we become beholding to them instead of to ourselves.  We become dishonorable, weak, lazy and irresponsible for our own needs, good and self value as we become accustomed to dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight and accepting his beguiling apples of temptation and vote to put the minions of the devil back into office over and over and over again; fomenting utter and continual corruption to the point where Congressmen literally hide hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes into refrigerator/freezers in bags.

Thousands of taxpayers from across the nation are planning to descend on Washington, D.C., to take their fight against excessive spending, bailouts, growth of big government and soaring deficits to the front door of the U.S. Capitol – and they say lawmakers can’t hide from their loud and clear message.

Fox News’ Glenn Beck has been promoting the 9-12 Project to bring citizens back “to the place we were on September 12, 2001.”

“The day after America was attacked we were not obsessed with Red States, Blue States or political parties,” the 9-12 Project website states. “We were united as Americans, standing together to protect the values and principles of the greatest nation ever created.”

On his show, Beck called Americans to forget about party politics and fight for the return to basic principles upon which the nation was founded.

“Our economy is tanking. It doesn’t show signs of improving,” Beck said. “There are people losing jobs, and it doesn’t look like there is more help on the way there; there are more cuts on the way. People around the world are taking to the streets. Our government responds with bailouts, and when you call them up and say ‘What are you doing?’ you don’t get any response. They’re not listening to you.”

The White House has not responded to WND’s request for comment.

Beck continued, “Ponzi scheme crooks get away with millions, tax cheats are getting promotions, terrorists are on the run, and you just want your family safe. You just want your children to grow up in a sane country, and you don’t want anybody indoctrinating your kids when they get to school. I think a lot of people feel like they’re alone and they just want to give up. I’m here to tell you something important, and that is: You are not alone.”

Beck said Americans were busy “burying our heads in the sand” or “playing politics” on Sept. 10, 2001.

“It was about Republicans or Democrats,” he said. “On 9/11, we were freaking out and no one knew who attacked us. … On 9/12, no one in the government had to tell us what to do. We just did it. … We gathered our families together. We prayed. We were the people that our grandparents were, and nobody had to tell us.”

Then the political parties got involved, he said, and Americans went back to their partisan squabbling.

The 9-12 Project challenges Americans to recommit themselves to the following principles:

1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday
4. The family is sacred. My family and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

“Become a 9-12er,” Beck said. “Forget about arguing about the parties. … Forget about it. It is a waste of time, and I really believe time is running out.”

Above all, he said, the No. 1 principle Americans must stand for is re-establishment of the Constitution.

In a major movement unaffiliated with – but inspired by – Beck’s 9-12 Project, called the National Taxpayer Protest, thousands of Americans are answering the call and booking travel arrangements to make their voices heard at Capitol Hill on Sept. 12.

“Our mission is to present a unified voice of concern over the current administration’s policies regarding taxation, our economy, foreign and domestic policy, as well as our individual constitutional rights as American citizens,” said Grassfire national coordinator Darla Dawald in an open invitation to the public to join the Sept. 12 taxpayer march in Washington, D.C. “America is in trouble, the problems and issues are broad and complex and it will take a monumental effort to stop, change and reverse the destructive course that this administration and Congress has put us on. Together, We the People can effect that change!”

On Sept. 10 and 11, the groups will host grassroots training seminars and Sept. 11 “We’ll Never Forget” memorial. The taxpayer march is scheduled to begin at the Lincoln Memorial at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and culminate with a rally at 1 p.m. in front of the Capitol.

The National Taxpayer Protest website offers detailed information on travel and hotel accommodations, including directions to the event. Tea party attendees may RSVP there as well.

More than 9,000 people have already registered through the protest website, and the number is growing rapidly.

“Obama managed to have 4 million show up at the Capitol grounds,” Dawald told WND. “We need to do the same if not more. The financial situation is dire, but as one gentleman said, ‘If I have to sell my belongings and crawl there, I will – because it’s that important!’”

Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots told WND the groups are focused on “protecting the values and principles that have made America the greatest nation for future generations.”

She said a confirmed list of speakers and performers will be released soon.

Brendan Steinhauser of FreedomWorks said the movement is gaining momentum as taxpayers plan trips to Washington to join the fight against big government.

“People want to do this,” he said. “The people who have been protesting around the country want to come to Washington and do this in D.C. In a lot of ways, they are being ignored and the media is underrepresenting them and their numbers. They want to come together for one big event and send a very clear message.”

Meanwhile, Beck’s 9-12 Project mission statement explains:

• Do you watch the direction that America is being taken in and feel powerless to stop it?

• Do you believe that your voice isn’t loud enough to be heard above the noise anymore?

As part of his own challenge to America, Beck asked patriots to get together with friends and talk about the country, its values, principles and Founding Fathers’ original purpose. He said to stay focused in the quest to take the America back.

“Believe me America, I am as tired as you are. I love my country,” he said. “It’s not the parties or anything else. It’s the principles behind this country. Stand up and fight for them.”

A movement to audit the Federal Reserve – the private institution that virtually controls U.S. interest rates, money supply and other economic influences – is gaining momentum in the House and Senate while the Fed ramps up its efforts to thwart scrutiny of its books.

House Resolution 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, now has 260 co-sponsors with many members of the House Financial Services Committee – where the bill currently resides – signed on already.

Likewise, Senate Bill 604, Federal Reserve Sunshine Act, orders a complete audit of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Federal Reserve Banks before the end of 2010. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., has eight co-sponsors and remains in the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.

As WND reported, members of the Senate recently blocked efforts by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., to vote on his amendment to a spending bill that provides money for Congress’ own budget. DeMint’s plan was to add an amendment to the spending bill that would have provided for an audit of the Fed to include information about its funding facilities, market operations and any agreements with foreign banks and governments, DeMint told senators,

In a July 9 hearing, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, questioned Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Donald Kohn about the Fed’s transparency.

“I think the Federal Reserve has been quite transparent and has become much more transparent under Chairman Bernanke about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it,” Kohn told Paul. “And I think we can retain our independence and your ability to trust what we’re doing only by explaining to you what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.”

Paul asked why the Fed cites “public interest” when it refuses to open up the central bank’s most sensitive decisions to political scrutiny and release discretely recorded transcripts of its policy meetings in the next five years. Kohn made his case for continued Fed secrecy.

“I would be very concerned that releasing those transcripts would inhibit debate,” Kohn said. “I think it’s in the public interest that we have an unfettered debate within the Open Market Committee, that we are able to speculate among ourselves … that there be no inhibition on the back and forth within the Open Market Committee. Frankly, I’ve been at the Federal Reserve for several decades now. In my view, publishing the transcripts themselves have had a somewhat inhibiting effect on the way the debate is carried out. … People would be very worried if their remarks were going to be made public very, very quickly. They’d be very worried about what they would say and they’d be much more careful about what they say, and that is not in the best public interest. …”

Kohn said releasing details on the central bank’s most sensitive decisions might create higher long-term interest rates and damage the U.S. credit rating.

The Federal Reserve has stepped up defense of its books by hiring Linda Robertson, former lobbyist for Enron and former adviser to three of the Clinton administration’s Treasury secretaries, to counter Congress skepticism about its growing power and combat legislation requiring an audit of the central bank.

In a recent Straight Talk commentary, Rep. Paul wrote, “Claims are made that auditing the Fed would compromise its independence. However, by independence, they really mean secrecy. The Fed clearly cherishes its vast power to create and spend trillions of dollars, diluting the value of every other dollar in circulation, making deals with other central banks, and bailing out cronies, all to the detriment of the taxpayer, and to the enrichment of themselves. I am happy to challenge this type of ‘independence.’”

Recently, two expert economists on the Federal Reserve – Allan Meltzer, a professor of political economy, and John Taylor, a former Treasury official – warned Congress against expanding the Fed’s power, the New York Times reported. They told a House panel that the Fed has routinely failed to recognize financial crises until after they happen.

“I do not know of any single clear example in which the Federal Reserve acted in advance to head off a crisis or a series of banking or financial failures,” said Meltzer.

But in light of the current economic downturn – the government takeover of the banking industry, the government’s demands for various auto industry bankruptcies, the government’s appointment of a “pay czar” – change apparently is coming.

“To understand how unwise it is to have the Federal Reserve, one must first understand the magnitude of the privileges they have,” Paul said. “They have been given the power to create money, by the trillions, and to give it to their friends, under any terms they wish, with little or no meaningful oversight or accountability.”

Paul has even said Congress should “reassert its constitutional authority over monetary policy.”

“The only accountability the Federal Reserve has is ultimately to Congress, which granted its charter and can revoke it at any time,” he wrote. “It is Congress’ constitutional duty to protect the value of the money, and they have abdicated this responsibility for far too long. … It is very encouraging to finally see the issue getting some needed exposure and traction. It is regrettable that it took a crisis of this magnitude to get a serious debate on this issue.”

Paul’s bill would also make the Federal Reserve’s funding facilities, including the Primary Dealer Credit Facility, Term Securities Lending Facility, and Term Asset-Backed Securities Lending Facility subject to congressional oversight.

Whereas, the U.S. Constitution, Article 1 Section 8, confers on Congress the power “to coin money, [and] regulate the value thereof,” yet Congress saw fit almost a century ago to hand this power over to a private banking consortium called the Federal Reserve System;

Whereas, since its creation in 1913, the Fed’s policies have diminished the value of the dollar by 95 percent and have, according to mainstream economists, played a major role in causing virtually every economic crisis America has suffered – including the Great Depression, which current Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke publicly admits was caused by the Federal Reserve;

Whereas, the U.S. is currently undergoing its greatest financial catastrophe since the Great Depression and the Fed’s interest-rate and money supply policies are widely regarded as having played a significant causative role;

Whereas, the Obama administration is intent on giving the already immensely powerful Fed vast new powers over the entire American financial system;

Whereas, Washington’s claims of a new culture of transparency notwithstanding, the Federal Reserve continues to operate in total secrecy, subjected to no meaningful oversight by, or accountability to, Congress, the very body that created it and for whom it supposedly works;

Whereas, many Americans, rightly or wrongly, regard the Fed as a malevolent, unelected cartel operating under brilliantly devious banking rules that permit it to silently steal Americans’ wealth – and allowing the Fed to continue to artificially manipulate the U.S. economy with no genuine oversight by citizens’ elected representatives simply fuels such accusations;

Whereas, a significant majority of members of the House of Representatives, from both parties, have already signed on as co-sponsors of a bill (H.R. 1207) to require that the Federal Reserve be independently audited, to bring at least a modicum of accountability to this immensely powerful controller of the American economy.

Whereas, the Senate currently has pending before it a companion bill (S. 604) to the one overwhelmingly supported by the House of Representatives, demanding that the Federal Reserve be audited;

Whereas, finally subjecting the Federal Reserve to an independent audit would go a long way toward increasing public confidence in Congress, and perhaps even bring about much-needed reforms that would enhance America’s economic stability, stop endless boom-and-bust cycles and constant inflation, and allow the greatest free market economic engine in history – the United States of America – to recover.
