So much for the crystal ball.

In a report next week, the Obama administration will increase its 10-year budget deficit projection to roughly $9 trillion, an increase of about $2 trillion from the previous projection, an official at the Office of Management and Budget told FOX News.

The 2010-2019 cumulative deficit projection replaces the administration’s previous estimate of $7.108 trillion.

The official said the prolonged recession and the ensuing decline in federal revenue prompted a recalibration of the deficit numbers. The numbers also reflect a projection that post-recession economic growth may not be as robust as after previous recessions, the official said.

Budget projections are rarely static. As economic conditions change, so do the estimates.

The White House also plans to announce this year’s federal deficit will end up about $262 billion less than officials had predicted earlier this year — in part because the administration has provided less aid than expected to Wall Street.

The federal deficit this year will total $1.58 trillion, a senior White House official told the Associated Press late Wednesday. That’s three times more red ink than last year. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the report before its release next Tuesday while President Obama will be on vacation in Massachusetts.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is expected to release its mid-session review the same day. It estimated in June a one-year deficit of $1.825 trillion.

The report for the budget year that ends Sept. 30 also will predict Washington to spend $3.653 trillion this year, the official said. Revenue, however, would reach only $2.074 trillion.

“Whether it’s $1.6 trillion or $1.8 trillion, it’s pretty bad,” said Robert Bixby, executive director of the bipartisan fiscal watchdog The Concord Coalition. “I hope no one tries to spin that as good news.”

The midsummer report was supposed to have been released in mid-July, but was delayed, leading to speculation the White House was delaying the bad news until Congress left on an August recess. Other administrations delayed releasing their versions of this report during their first year.

Obama’s budget had included a $250 billion placeholder for a second bailout of the nation’s troubled banks, but he did not ask Congress for it amid concerns the administration was spending too heavily. The administration also had anticipated more banks failing, but the survival of most banks saved billions for Washington.

The report comes during a rough patch for Obama’s presidency. The rancor surrounding the Democrats’ proposed health care overhaul came during a monthlong break when much of Washington is in a lull.

The administration earlier this year predicted that unemployment would peak at about 9 percent without a big stimulus package and 8 percent with one. Congress did pass a $787 billion two-year stimulus measure, yet unemployment soared to 9.4 percent in July and appears headed for double digits. Most of that stimulus will occur in the coming fiscal year.

The nation’s debt now stands at $11.7 trillion. In the scheme of things, that’s more important than talking about the deficit, which only looks at a one-year slice of bookkeeping and ignores previous debt that is still outstanding.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama pitched his ambitious plan to both talk radio listeners and his own liberal supporters in the face of steep resistance from opposition Republicans and decreasing support in the polls.

Liberals were on the verge of revolt as Obama refused to say any final deal must include a government-run insurance option, while Republicans pressed their all-but-unified opposition to the White House effort. Obama, who leaves Washington on Friday on vacation, said reason would prevail and it was no time to panic.

“I guarantee you … we are going to get health care reform done. And I know that there are a lot of people out there who have been hand-wringing, and folks in the press are following every little twist and turn of the legislative process,” Obama told a caller to Philadelphia-based radio talk show host Michael Smerconish during a broadcast Thursday from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room.

“You know, passing a big bill like this is always messy.”

Obama is struggling to regain the momentum on a comprehensive bill that would extend health coverage to nearly 50 million Americans who lack it and restrain skyrocketing costs. The United States is the only developed nation that does not have a comprehensive national health care plan for all its citizens.

Obama has proposed a system that would include government and private insurers. Republicans say that private insurers would be unable to compete, leaving the country with only a government-run health program. They warn that could leave Americans with little control over their health care.

Opponents of the overhaul have drowned out supporters at lawmakers’ town halls around the country this month, and public backing for Obama’s effort has slipped in opinion polls.

Congressional Democratic leaders are preparing to go it alone on legislation, although in the Senate bipartisan negotiations continue among a group of three Democrats and three Republicans on the pivotal Finance Committee.

The so-called Gang of Six convened a conference call late Thursday to resume their talks, their first discussion since they dispersed for Congress’ August recess, in some cases to be greeted by angry constituents at home.

Top Finance Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the Republican’s key negotiator, said this week that he’d have to take his constituents’ concerns into consideration in continuing talks. But after members of the group spoke for about an 1 1/2 hours Thursday, senators said they remained committed to producing a bipartisan bill and planned to continue work with an increased focus on affordability and costs.

“Tonight was a productive conversation. We discussed our progress and remain committed to continuing our path toward a bipartisan health care reform bill,” said Finance Chairman Max Baucus, a Democrat.

The group is aiming to finalize legislation by Sept. 15, and Baucus said the group will meet again before the Senate returns to Washington at the beginning of the month.

On the defensive, Obama is embracing a new role of fact checker-in-chief, trying to correct untrue claims such as that the proposals would provide health care for illegal immigrants, create “death panels” or pay for abortions with taxpayer dollars. Aides say the situation has left Obama exasperated.

“Now, c’mon,” a mocking Obama told a cheering crowd late Thursday at a Democratic National Committee appearance designed to re-energize activists who were instrumental in his drive to the presidency. “What we’re going to have to do is to cut through the noise and the misinformation.”

“I said during the campaign that the best offense against lies is the truth,” Obama said. “And so all we can do is just keep on pushing the truth.”

Yet for all the gnashing from Republicans and fiscally conservative Democrats, he faces equally tough opposition from lawmakers and activists on the left who insist any overhaul must include a government-run insurance option.

In fact, shortly after his comments Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared the Democratic-controlled House simply won’t approve the overhaul without it.

“There’s no way I can pass a bill in the House of Representatives without a public option,” Pelosi said after a round-table in San Francisco.

Obama told his DNC audience — as well as thousands watching online and listening by telephone — that health care was the toughest fight he has faced in office.

“Winning the election is just the start,” he said. “Victory in an election wasn’t the change that we sought.”

That election, though, came with his promise of the government insurance option, a provision that Obama’s team now calls “preferred” but not mandatory. During both his Thursday appearances, Obama declined to call it a deal breaker.

He told Smerconish that “the press got excited and some folks on the left got a little excited” when he and top administration aides last weekend made statements indicating that a publicly run health insurance option was just one of several alternatives.

Since then, Obama has faced increasing criticism from his left flank.

While the White House insists Obama is still looking for Republican support for a comprehensive health care bill, Democrats privately are preparing a one-party push, which they feel is all but inevitable. Polls show slippage in support for the president’s approach, although respondents express even less confidence in Republicans’ handling of health care.

“I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There’s going to be potentially some transition process… I can envision a decade out or 15 years out or 20 years out….”

     When that video hit the Internet, liberals cried foul. They screamed that Obama was being taken out of context. And actually, they were right.

     Those of us who have read the ObamaCare plan currently making its way through Congress realize that it’s far worse… they don’t want to do it in 15 years or 20 years… they actually want to do it in five years, if not sooner.

“If we get a good public option, it could lead to single payer and that’s the best way to reach single payer.”     And how about Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, who was told by a gentleman from an insurance company that      Schakowsky emphatically screamed to a cheering crowd,      Right now, people who believe in Socialism and Central Government are re-grouping… hoping they can sneak Obama’s dangerous government-run health care experiment by you when Congress returns.“He was right. The man was right.”

“a public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single payer.”

The report said Klein wrote that CNN researchers found Hawaiian records were discarded in 2001 when the state’s records system went electronic. Therefore, the report said, Obama’s original long-form birth certificate no longer exists, and a computer-generated abbreviated version that has been promoted on the Internet is the official record.

“It seems to definitively answer the question,” Klein’s e-mail said, according to the newspaper. “Since the show’s mission is for Lou to be the explainer and enlightener, he should be sure to cite this during your segment tonite. And then it seems this story is dead – because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef.”

 WND has produced hundreds of stories reporting on dozens of legal challenges to Obama’s status as a “natural born citizen” and other issues. The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Hawaii Department of Health affirmed that no paper birth certificates were destroyed when the department moved to electronic record-keeping.

“I am not aware of any birth certificate records that have been destroyed by the department,” Janice Okubo, public information officer for the Hawaii DOH, told WND. “When the department went electronic in 2001, vital records, whether in paper form or any other form, [were] maintained. We don’t destroy records.”

Okubo affirmed that beginning in 2001, all vital records, including birth records, moved to electronic formats.

“Any records that we had in paper or any other form before 2001 are still in file within the department,” she insisted. “We have not destroyed any vital statistics records that we have.”

The Liberty Tree Lantern believes that Lou Dobbs has the right to inform the public about Barack Obama’s eligibility or ineligibility based on “THE ACTUAL LONG FORM formal birth certificate that President Obama has spent HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Dollars on Attorneys to ensure that no formal vital records about Obama’s birth gets out to the public.  Why has Obama spent such a vast amount of money to make sure that his birth certificate does not get released?  Is there some particular reason why Obama hasn’t evern released is medical records?  Is there a particular reason why he spent over half a million dollars in Attorney fees to prevent his birth certificate from going out instead of just releasing a birth certificate that is just short of free of cost?  If you had the choice of spending over $500,000.00 on high priced attorneys or spending perhaps $25.00 or so to produce the “actual FORMAL LONG form certified birth certificate complete with doctors signature and other details”, which would you spend your money on?

Directly contradicting CNN chief Jon Klein – who ordered host Lou Dobbs to quit discussing President Obama’s birth certificate – the Hawaii Department of Health affirmed that no paper birth certificates were destroyed when the department moved to electronic record-keeping.

“I am not aware of any birth certificate records that have been destroyed by the department,” Janice Okubo, public information officer for the Hawaii DOH, told WND. “When the department went electronic in 2001, vital records, whether in paper form or any other form, [were] maintained. Okubu’s refusal to comment on the status of Obama’s long-form birth certificate seemed to contradict an Oct. 31, 2008, letter by Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of health for the state of Hawaii. Fukino claimed she personally saw and could verify that Hawaii had Obama’s original long-form birth certificate on file.

But both Okubu and Fukino are now on the record contradicting CNN’s claim that Hawaii had destroyed Obama’s long-form birth certificate when the health department went electronic in 2001.

The White House has refused to acknowledge repeated requests from WND that Obama authorize the Hawaii DOH to release all his birth records, including his original long-form birth certificate.

WND also has reported Obama has not released his kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records.

After weeks of total silence on the issue, the White House press secretary today issued a terse statement confirming that President Obama will, in fact, attend the North American Leaders summit with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper next month.

WND reported earlier on the silence from the White House about the meeting that used to be known as the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America.

The only mention at that time of the Mexico summit that WND could find on a U.S. government website was on a calendar on the U.S. Department of State site that listed only: “August 8-11, North American Leader’s Summit, Mexico,” with no additional information.

Now in an e-mailed statement from Press Secretary Robert Gibbs titled “Upcoming Travel by the President,” he confirms Obama will attend.

“The president will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico, August 9-10 to attend the North American Leaders Summit with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper,” the two-sentence announcement began.

“The summit meeting will provide an opportunity for the United States, Mexico, and Canada to engage on a broad range of issues, including economic recovery and competitiveness in North America, our shared interest in energy and the environment, and cooperation among our governments to promote the safety and welfare of our citizens, including continued close cooperation to counter the A/H1N1 influenza pandemic.”

WND has reported that the last annual SPP meeting in New Orleans included a determined public relations effort to drop the SPP designation completely in order to defuse criticism.

When he was a candidate, Obama wrote an article published by the Dallas Morning News entitled, “I will repair our relationship with Mexico,” in which he stated: “Starting my first year in office, I will convene annual meetings with Mr. Calderon and the prime minister of Canada. Unlike similar summits under President Bush, these will be conducted with a level of transparency that represents the close ties among our three countries.”

Brent Patterson, the director of campaigns at the Council of Canadians, had been critical of Obama for not announcing his plans, questioning Obama’s “commitment … to transparency and accountability for this meeting.”

The Council of Canadians is a citizens’ organization WND has previously reported is actively opposed to North American political integration under NAFTA and the SPP.

WND has previously reported that Robert A. Pastor, the American University professor who for more than a decade has been a major proponent of building a North American Community, has declared the SPP “is dead,” largely due to efforts to expose the SPP’s North American integration agenda.

WND has also reported that President Obama has backtracked on his campaign promises to renegotiate NAFTA in order to get provisions more favorable to U.S. workers and U.S. jobs.

During the presidential campaign, Obama was forced to fire from his campaign an important economic adviser. Austan Goolsbee, an economics professor at the University of Chicago business school, was dismissed after reporters learned he had traveled to Canada to reassure Canadians that Obama’s campaign promises to renegotiate NAFTA were just campaign rhetoric.

In the Ohio and Pennsylvania Democratic Party primaries, candidate Obama had pledged to renegotiate NAFTA as part of his appeal to Ohio and Pennsylvania workers who have lost manufacturing jobs under the free trade agreements negotiated by Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush.

Now, Goolsbee is back in the White House, having taken a leave of absence from the University of Chicago. Obama appointed him to serve as chief economist and staff director of the newly created Presidential Economic Recovery Advisory Board, chaired by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volker.

Obama also appointed Goolsbee to the Council of Economic Advisors, or CEA, which is charged with assisting in the development of White House economic policy.

Thousands of taxpayers from across the nation are planning to descend on Washington, D.C., to take their fight against excessive spending, bailouts, growth of big government and soaring deficits to the front door of the U.S. Capitol – and they say lawmakers can’t hide from their loud and clear message.

Fox News’ Glenn Beck has been promoting the 9-12 Project to bring citizens back “to the place we were on September 12, 2001.”

“The day after America was attacked we were not obsessed with Red States, Blue States or political parties,” the 9-12 Project website states. “We were united as Americans, standing together to protect the values and principles of the greatest nation ever created.”

On his show, Beck called Americans to forget about party politics and fight for the return to basic principles upon which the nation was founded.

“Our economy is tanking. It doesn’t show signs of improving,” Beck said. “There are people losing jobs, and it doesn’t look like there is more help on the way there; there are more cuts on the way. People around the world are taking to the streets. Our government responds with bailouts, and when you call them up and say ‘What are you doing?’ you don’t get any response. They’re not listening to you.”

The White House has not responded to WND’s request for comment.

Beck continued, “Ponzi scheme crooks get away with millions, tax cheats are getting promotions, terrorists are on the run, and you just want your family safe. You just want your children to grow up in a sane country, and you don’t want anybody indoctrinating your kids when they get to school. I think a lot of people feel like they’re alone and they just want to give up. I’m here to tell you something important, and that is: You are not alone.”

Beck said Americans were busy “burying our heads in the sand” or “playing politics” on Sept. 10, 2001.

“It was about Republicans or Democrats,” he said. “On 9/11, we were freaking out and no one knew who attacked us. … On 9/12, no one in the government had to tell us what to do. We just did it. … We gathered our families together. We prayed. We were the people that our grandparents were, and nobody had to tell us.”

Then the political parties got involved, he said, and Americans went back to their partisan squabbling.

“Become a 9-12er,” Beck said. “Forget about arguing about the parties. … Forget about it. It is a waste of time, and I really believe time is running out.”

Above all, he said, the No. 1 principle Americans must stand for is re-establishment of the Constitution.

In a major movement unaffiliated with – but inspired by – Beck’s 9-12 Project, called the National Taxpayer Protest, thousands of Americans are answering the call and booking travel arrangements to make their voices heard at Capitol Hill on Sept. 12.

“Our mission is to present a unified voice of concern over the current administration’s policies regarding taxation, our economy, foreign and domestic policy, as well as our individual constitutional rights as American citizens,” said Grassfire national coordinator Darla Dawald in an open invitation to the public to join the Sept. 12 taxpayer march in Washington, D.C. “America is in trouble, the problems and issues are broad and complex and it will take a monumental effort to stop, change and reverse the destructive course that this administration and Congress has put us on. Together, We the People can effect that change!”

On Sept. 10 and 11, the groups will host grassroots training seminars and Sept. 11 “We’ll Never Forget” memorial. The taxpayer march is scheduled to begin at the Lincoln Memorial at 10 a.m. Sept. 12 and culminate with a rally at 1 p.m. in front of the Capitol.

The National Taxpayer Protest website offers detailed information on travel and hotel accommodations, including directions to the event. Tea party attendees may RSVP there as well.

More than 9,000 people have already registered through the protest website, and the number is growing rapidly.

“Obama managed to have 4 million show up at the Capitol grounds,” Dawald told WND. “We need to do the same if not more. The financial situation is dire, but as one gentleman said, ‘If I have to sell my belongings and crawl there, I will – because it’s that important!’”

Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party Patriots told WND the groups are focused on “protecting the values and principles that have made America the greatest nation for future generations.”

She said a confirmed list of speakers and performers will be released soon.

Brendan Steinhauser of FreedomWorks said the movement is gaining momentum as taxpayers plan trips to Washington to join the fight against big government.

“People want to do this,” he said. “The people who have been protesting around the country want to come to Washington and do this in D.C. In a lot of ways, they are being ignored and the media is underrepresenting them and their numbers. They want to come together for one big event and send a very clear message.”

Meanwhile, Beck’s 9-12 Project mission statement explains:

‘For 1st time, we have a judge who’s listening’

In what ultimately could prove to be a turning point in the legal challenges to Barack Obama’s eligibility to be president, a federal judge

in California has planned a hearing on the merits of a federal court case raising those questions.

According to attorney Orly Taitz, who is working on multiple cases alleging Obama is a “usurper” because he doesn’t meet the constitutional requirement that only a “natural born citizen” can be president, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter ruled in a hearing today that her case will move forward.

The hearing was on her motion for a default order against Obama, because although Taitz said she notified him of the action, Obama’s attorneys did not make an appearance.

Her complaint was filed against the president on Jan. 20, the day of his inauguration, over his actions before he became president.

Taitz has told WND if her motion for default is granted she immediately would request access to Obama’s birth records and other documentation

that could determine his eligibility to occupy the Oval Office.

“I have a very clear case,” Taitz said. “I think they dropped the ball. They didn’t figure out this case filed on Jan. 20th, on the day of inauguration.

The case was filed on behalf of former U.S. Ambassador Alan Keyes, also a contestant in the 2008 presidential race in California, and others. Taitz said the case might have been confused with another Keyes vs. Obama case filed in the state’s court system, which was thrown out and now is on appeal.

“I will be asking for the release of his vital records,” she has told WND.

The case, which also includes Wiley S. Drake and Markham Robinson as plaintiffs, names as defendant “Barack H Obama also known as Barack Hussein Obama II also known as Barack H Obama II also known as Barry Obama also known as Barry Soetoro.”

“Plaintiffs respectfully submit that this Court’s order finding or at least strongly suggesting that 4(e) service is insufficient, and requiring 4(i) service, regarding the subject matter of this lawsuit as against the sole served Defendant Barack H. Obama, is manifestly erroneous and plaintiffs accordingly request that the court reconsider its motion,” she argued in her motion.

“In the alternative, plaintiffs move and request that this court exercise its sound discretion to certify a question for interlocutory appeal.”

She told WND that at today’s hearing, the judge issued no orders, but promised that the case would be moved forward and he would address the merits of the dispute. He said there would be no dismissals based on “procedural issues.”

The judge said as a former Marine he recognizes the importance of having a constitutionally qualified president.

While no attorneys appeared on Obama’s behalf, several members of the U.S. Attorney’s office in California were in attendance, and sought to intervene on behalf of Obama over his actions before becoming president.

The judge ordered them to accept service of the lawsuit immediately and then continued the case to an unannounced date.

Taitz told WND, “For first time, we have a judge who’s listening.”

Multiple WND calls to various branches of the U.S. attorney’s offices in California did not generate any response.

Taitz said she has some changes to make in the pleadings, but she was able to fully explain the reasons for her case.

“He [the judge] heard the whole thing,” she said.

Keyes also is plaintiff in a separate case making its way through the California state court system. His opinions on the dispute have been captured on YouTube:

“We’re either going to stop him, or the United States of America is going to cease to exist,” he said. “That’s not a laughing matter.’

Taitz’ complaint cites Obama individually for his acts before he took office, specifically his refusal to provide the documentation that would show his eligibility.

The question over Obama’s eligibility now also is being raised on billboards nationwide.

The billboard campaign follows an ongoing petition campaign launched several months ago by WND Editor and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Farah.

The billboards are intended to raise public awareness of the fact that Obama has never released the standard “long-form” birth certificate that would show which hospital he was born in, the attending physician and establish that he truly was born in Hawaii, as his autobiography maintains.

WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama’s status as a “natural born citizen.” The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama’s American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama’s citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Complicating the situation is Obama’s decision to spend sums estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid releasing a state birth certificate that would put to rest all of the questions.

The “Certification of Live Birth” posted online and widely touted as “Obama’s birth certificate” does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same “short-form” document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true “long-form” birth certificate – which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician – is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny.

Oddly, though congressional hearings were held to determine whether Sen. John McCain was constitutionally eligible to be president as a “natural born citizen,” no controlling legal authority ever sought to verify Obama’s claim to a Hawaiian birth.

Although Obama officials have told WND all such allegations are “garbage,” here is a partial listing and status update for some of the cases over Obama’s eligibility:

• New Jersey attorney Mario Apuzzo has filed a case on behalf of Charles Kerchner and others alleging Congress didn’t properly ascertain that Obama is qualified to hold the office of president.
• Pennsylvania Democrat Philip Berg has three cases pending, including Berg vs. Obama in the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a separate Berg vs. Obama case alleging he wasn’t qualified even to be U.S. senator and Hollister vs. Soetoro a/k/a Obama, (now dismissed) brought on behalf of a retired military member who could be facing recall to active duty by Obama.
• Leo Donofrio of New Jersey filed a lawsuit claiming Obama’s dual citizenship disqualified him from serving as president. His case was considered in conference by the U.S. Supreme Court but denied a full hearing.
• Cort Wrotnowski filed suit against Connecticut’s secretary of state, making a similar argument to Donofrio. His case was considered in conference by the U.S. Supreme Court, but was denied a full hearing.
• Former presidential candidate Alan Keyes headlines a list of people filing a suit in California, in a case handled by the United States Justice Foundation, that asks the secretary of state to refuse to allow the state’s 55 Electoral College votes to be cast in the 2008 presidential election until Obama verifies his eligibility to hold the office. The case is pending, and lawyers are seeking the public’s support.
• Chicago lawyer Andy Martin sought legal action requiring Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle to release Obama’s vital statistics record. The case was dismissed by Hawaii Circuit Court Judge Bert Ayabe.
• Lt. Col. Donald Sullivan sought a temporary restraining order to stop the Electoral College vote in North Carolina until Barack Obama’s eligibility could be confirmed, alleging doubt about Obama’s citizenship. His case was denied.
• In Ohio, David M. Neal sued to force the secretary of state to request documents from the Federal Elections Commission, the Democratic National Committee, the Ohio Democratic Party and Obama to show the presidential candidate was born in Hawaii. The case was denied.
• Also in Ohio, there was the Greenberg v. Brunner case which ended when the judge threatened to assess all case costs against the plaintiff.
• In Washington state, Steven Marquis sued the secretary of state seeking a determination on Obama’s citizenship. The case was denied.
• In Georgia, Rev. Tom Terry asked the state Supreme Court to authenticate Obama’s birth certificate. His request for an injunction against Georgia’s secretary of state was denied by Georgia Superior Court Judge Jerry W. Baxter.
• California attorney Orly Taitz has brought a case, Lightfoot vs. Bowen, on behalf of Gail Lightfoot, the vice presidential candidate on the ballot with Ron Paul, four electors and two registered voters. She also has brought forward several other cases and has conducted several public campaigns to generate awareness of the issue.

• In Texas, Darrel Hunter vs. Obama later was dismissed.
• In Ohio, Gordon Stamper vs. U.S. later was dismissed.
• In Texas, Brockhausen vs. Andrade.
• In Washington, L. Charles Cohen vs. Obama.
• In Hawaii, Keyes vs. Lingle, dismissed.

WASHINGTON – It may be the issue few in the media dare address, but a new scientific public opinion survey of a cross-section of Americans shows they are not only aware of questions about Barack Obama’s constitutional eligibility for office, but almost half are either “troubled” by the questions or believe he should release all relevant documents including his long-form birth certificate.  

Asked if they are aware of the questions raised about Obama’s constitutional eligibility for office, 51.3 percent answered affirmatively, while only 18.7 percent said no. Another 30 percent said they were unsure.

“Our polling shows that the questions surrounding Barack Obama’s eligibility to serve as president clearly strike a nerve across America, probably because it is a problem that everybody understands,” said pollster Fritz Wenzel. “Every American citizen has a birth certificate, and once in a while we all have to produce them to get a drivers license or gain entrance to school. Everyone understands the simple rules – if you don’t produce it, you don’t get in. And while Obama did get in to the White House, nearly half the country’s adults – 49 percent – are troubled by this issue and still want him to produce his official long-form birth certificate.”

Among Republicans, 58.2 percent said they were aware, while 49 percent of Democrats acknowledged knowing about the questions. The higher the income of those questioned, the more likely they were to answer yes.

“There’s not much variance across demographic groups on the question, with the exception of race, where whites were far more likely than blacks to be troubled by Obama’s refusal to produce the original birth certificate,” said Wenzel. “It is interesting to note that Obama’s own age cohort – those in their 40s and 50s – were more likely than any other age groups to want the new president to prove he is eligible for the job.”

When asked what their view of the questions was, 41.5 percent of respondents answered that Obama should release all relevant documents, including the long-form birth certificate. Another 7.8 percent said they were “troubled” by the questions.

Others (12.3 percent) said they were “not concerned,” while 9.2 percent said the questions were not valid and 14.3 percent said Obama had met the requirements as a “natural born citizen.” Another 8.5 percent said Obama had answered the questions to their satisfaction, while 6.3 percent said the requirements of the Constitution were simply outdated.

The WND/Wenzel survey was conducted June 6–10 using an automated telephone technology calling a random sampling of listed telephone numbers nationwide. The survey included 22 questions and carries a 95 percent confidence interval. It included 790 adult respondents. It carries a margin of error of +/– 3.5 percentage points.

Data from this survey also showed that a substantial majority – 56 percent – also wants Obama to release his educational records, which would yield more clues to his early life and citizenship. Among men, 62 percent said those school records should be released.

“These are questions that are not on the front pages right now, but they are far from going away – and people clearly want answers,” said Wenzel. “As long as they go unanswered, they act like a low-grade fever that hampers everything Obama is attempting to do in office. And they could flare up at any time.”

The questions were asked along with a series about personal freedoms.

“There’s another interesting twist here – in that this survey showed that nearly half of American adults nationwide think personal freedoms have decreased under Obama,” said Wenzel. “At a time when there is substantial unease over Obama’s dramatic intervention in the U.S. auto industry and his promise of swift action to overhaul the national health care system, many want this man who is exercising such power to remake our country to prove once and for all that he is qualified to wield such power.”
