International climate treaty feared for impact on liberties

A video explaining the dangers of a U.N. treaty proposal promoted by President Obama that critics say would lead to a world government has received more than 3.5 million views since WND broke the story on the ominous possibilities, and now there is word from the Obama administration the plan might not be going so smoothly.

In the video, Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, asserts the real purpose of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen Dec. 7-18 is to use concern over “global warming” as a pretext to lay the foundation for a one-world government.

At the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen “this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed,” Lord Christopher Monckton told a Minnesota Free Market Institute audience at Bethel University in St. Paul.

According to the Minnesota Free Market Institute, the video, as originally posted, has collected 2.2 million views and almost 700 pages of comments, but there also are more than 100 other cloned versions of Monckton’s comments on YouTube and the aggregate views exceed 3.5 million.

The video helped launch a national petition drive opposing the Copenhagen treaty at NoCapAndTrade.com, with its more than 135,000 messages to Congress opposing the plan. It’s been discussed by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham and Michelle Malkin, among others.

Now there are indications the light of information being spread about the potential problems is casting shadows on the proposal.

“The more people learn about the supposed issue of ‘climate change’ and how green extremists intend to control our lives, the more skeptical they become,” said Jeff Davis, president of the Minnesota Majority.

Get “The Sky’s Not Falling! Why it’s OK to chill on global warming”

Further, Michael Froman, deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs, said in a Bloomberg report today the latest word on Copenhagen is an “assessment by the leaders that it was unrealistic to expect a full, internationally legally binding agreement to be negotiated between now and when Copenhagen starts.”

Davis said the impact of Monckton’s warning is becoming apparent in other ways. He cited a decision just days ago by key U.S. Senate Democrats who confirmed it is unlikely there will be any additional action on climate-change legislation this year. Obama had hoped to pass a cap-and-trade energy taxation plan before the Copenhagen conference.

Bloomberg’s report confirmed leaders from Asia have admitted a binding global-warming accord isn’t likely next month.

Obama attended a meeting

of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Singapore in which leaders proposed a two-stage approach to follow up the failed Kyoto Protocol, which sought to manage emissions worldwide but never earned the support of several of the world’s leading energy-consuming nations.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen told Bloomberg there may be no “legally binding instrument,” although a political agreement is possible.

The 1997 Kyoto plan is scheduled to expire in three more years, but years of talks already held have failed to produce agreement on energy restrictions.

Instead, Rasmussen has suggested an agreement to cut greenhouse gases, with an outline for a political agreement that would be the subject of further negotiations.

At the Examiner, a blogger concluded, “The credibility of global warming theories (and sanctimonious theorists) and any international climate controls are fading with each passing day.”

Monckton warned in the video that Obama supports the idea and is ready to sign on the dotted line.

“Your president will sign it. Most of the Third World countries will sign it, because they think they’re going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regimes from the European Union will rubber-stamp it. Virtually nobody won’t sign it,” Monckton told the audience of some 700 attendees.

“I read that treaty and what it says is this: that a world government is going to be created. The word ‘government’ actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity.”

He has warned the proposal would cede U.S. sovereignty, mandate a massive wealth transfer from the United States to pay reparations for “climate debt” to Third World countries and create a new “world government” to enforce the treaty’s provisions.

Davis also warned that while the apparent uncertainty over the treaty has bought some time, it’s not enough.

“Green extremists will be back in force trying to advance both domestic cap-and-trade legislation and an international climate treaty that will rob us of our liberties and grant government more control over our lives,” he said.

Monckton’s lecture can be viewed online and his slides also can be accessed on the Internet.

Islam is a part of promoting “peace”? You have GOT to be kidding me! Hasn’t he read the Koran like a good Muslim? Like the “devout” Muslim did, that just massacred thirteen “Infidel” American Soldiers and maimed over twenty more of our Son and Daughter heroes at Fort Hood, TX? All “devout” Muslims follow the meaning and intent of the Koran, WORD FOR WORD. That means, therefore, that they believe in “The Caliphate”; a religious theocracy that is to grow and expand through either conversion of all peoples to Islam or Murdering the rest who they call “Infidels”; such as the ones who worked in the World Trade Towers shown in the video. Those are the marching ORDERS in the Koran. Now that being said there are some Muslims who do not follow those bad henious parts of the Koran and I believe they are good peaceful people. But they are NOT “devout” in the pure definition of the word. Obama, according to his own words, however, is “devout”. And if he get his way, WE ALL WILL BE SOON as he said;”we are a nation of Muslims.” (Or was he lying?)

I wonder if Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the “devout” Fort Knox Caliphate murdering Muslim, is disappointed that he hasn’t gotten to greet Muhammed yet with his 72 Virgins in tow? Wouldn’t it be terrible if America graciously arranged the meeting for him, in a couple of weeks or so, and this happened:

Pardon me but the above video of facts and truth about where President Obama’s loyalties lie and regards to his deep ”devout” faith and “guidance”" really PISSES ME OFF. How many Americans knew this BEFORE they elected him?

I shed more than a few tears during the televised funeral of our Fort Hood patriots today who defend our Constitution, our freedom, liberty and individual unalienable rights, from enemies both foreign and domestic, who that DAMN “devout” Muslim killer murdered in cold defenseless blood on our own American Army base where our Sons and Daughters should feel completely free and secure from any harm!

I have had it with Political Correctness, OVER Tolerance and Multiculturalism. Either you are an “American”, and subscribe and immerse yourself in our UNIQUE “American” Culture like all of the immigrant families used to do when they came to America or you should be free to leave WITHOUT citizenship! PERIOD. If ANY PERSON in AMERICA can’t COMPLETELY and FULLY and DESIREOUSLY appreciate “MERRY CHRISTMAS!”, for ONE example, and The Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States as written by Benjamin F. Morris in his 1864 book hot linked here, then they should be shipped out; Or, with regards to politicians for treasonous activities against the Constitution and the God given rights of each individual American, hung. I have had it with the destruction of our country and our AMERICAN principles by Political Correctness of the Socialist / Communists in academia, media and The US Government itself.

People, how long are we going to be playing around with these Democrats and Republicans who treasonously destroy the principles of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution and contemptuously usurp power on a daily or hourly basis and foment divisions amongst us through the deceit of multiculturalism and OVER tolerance in lieu of assimilation like all immigrants used to do? WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

Boy, I am really hot on this one. Remember how almost the entire Main Stream Media kept on covering up Obama’s deep “devout” Muslim heritage and faith, with truth conflicting report over truth conflicting lying report before the election? This is MADNESS! Isn’t it interesting that the Republican Party didn’t point these events, clearly shown on the video above, out to us during the election process? And why didn’t the Republican Party with all of their financial resources check out Obama’s eligibility? What the hell was up with that???? I DO NOT trust them either! Something is going on and I smell a RAT…

I shall endeavor to vote for The Constitution Party, like I did the last time, at every opportunity! Republicans are just better liars who perform the same function of Marching our fellow Americans into utter dependency on the path to the Socialist BIG BROTHER police welfare State. According to reports the Republican Health Care bill isn’t much better than the Democrat one. Either way the American public becomes “ENSLAVED” and individually IDENTIFIED and MARKED with NO PRIVACY, and ultimately, I submit, NO FREEDOM.

We THE PEOPLE have to get our COUNTRY BACK. One Way or THE OTHER. The RULE OF LAW, as WE wrote, established and ordained on our Federal Government, in The Constitution, MUST BE ENFORCED in its entirety! That foreign born alien has got to go. Perhaps it is time for America to arrange a little visit with Allah for this man who isn’t a liar (or do you think he was lying in the video above?). Finally a Constitutionally supported action, defending the Constitution, our heroes and our fellow countrymen against domestic enemies, that I will gladly “volunteer” (as it states in the IRS code), to pay taxes for.

I noticed that a very “devout” Muslim, who by his own admission in the video above strongly believes in and is “guided by” the Koran and Muslim faith, who apologies at every nation stop and place he goes to for our unique “American” culture and our prosperity, spoke at the funeral of murdered American soldiers. Wasn’t that Special? Speak of ironic juxtaposition to the max! Remember; “Not God Bless America, God Damn America!”

ALLAH AKBAR!

Are you still wondering why President Obama hasn’t sent in more troops and equipment into Afghanistan, to fight the Caliphate “devout” Muslims while our soldiers on the battlefield get needlessly killed due to lack thereof, by now? How many of our own died over there, in the last few months, while our honorable Generals and commanders wait on Obama’s decision? Hasn’t Obama got in enough golf games and gallivanting around the world with Oprah Winfrey pitching for the Olympics to come to Chicago and such important things as that, to make a decision by now?

ONE MORE QUESTION – - - HOW LONG WILL “FREE SPEECH LAST” before Youtube is coerced into pulling this video of TRUTH?

And, just as importantly or more so, how many Tories are there amongst us who want it pulled? You should ask the people around you what they think of this video so that you can ascertain who are the Tories who live in your community, who your family needs to be aware of.

The time of choosing is soon at hand folks. It is a choice none of us can avoid with the advent of the coming collapse of “The MATRix” (our economy that only exists in our minds which have been Mass Behavior Modified to believe that FEDERAL RESERVE “NOTES” are worth 100 cents, when they are only worth 2 – 3 cents in the ‘real’ world of reality). The question becomes; Will you choose individual rights, freedom, liberty and OUR GOD, or will you choose the “Godless” – “green” hybrid of Socialism, Communism and Fascism that all three branches and both major parties of our Federal Government has in store for us as “The MATRIX” is soon to collapse?

If you choose Liberty, you sure better know who the Tories are around you. And, beware of them, when the time of choosing arrives, when Barack Obama gives us “The Final Ultimatum” between Liberty and the security of a ONE WORLD CURRENCY which comes with the final destruction of the Constitution and our “God Given” unalienable rights.

Anybody who wants to keep the truth from you, is NOT your friend or a patriot, but a Tory.

Lord, save our country! - – - Our ‘FREE’,,, Country!

October 27, 2009

By Sen. Tom Coburn

The day after White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s Clintonesque plan to triangulate and divide Republicans and doctors failed a major newspaper published this headline: “Democrats Lose Big Test Vote on Health Legislation.” The title was so fair and balanced many media obsessed White House advisers could have attributed it to Fox News. Yet, it was the New York Times that captured in a well-written, fair and subtle story the depth of the challenge the White House faces in its push to enact major health care reform legislation.

As the Times reported, “[Majority Leader Reid] needed 60 votes to proceed. He won only 47. And he could not blame Republicans. A dozen Democrats and one independent crossed party lines and voted with Republicans …”

Bottom of Form

The first lesson for the White House in this defeat is that public concern about the deficit is real, not manufactured. Twelve Democrats opposed the Emanuel strategy not just on principle but sound political judgment. Senate Democrats understand that voters, by a two to one margin, want Congress to address the deficit first, then health care. They knew that the effort to spend a quarter of a trillion dollar outside of the reform process was shameless and fiscally irresponsible. As Ron Wyden (D-WA), one of the “no” votes, said in the Times article, “On the eve of a historic debate on health care, it’s essential to show a commitment to real reform,” which includes fiscal responsibility.

The Washington Post – not Fox News – went farther and blasted the Emanuel/Reid triangulation strategy, calling it “nonsensical” and “sleight of hand.” As the Post wrote: “The political imperative is twofold: to make certain that Republicans don’t use the physician payment issue to bring down the larger bill and to placate the American Medical Association … A president who says that he is serious about dealing with the dire fiscal picture cannot credibly begin by charging this one to the national credit card, with no concern for the later generations who will have to pay the bill.”

The nation’s doctors also understood the strategy and weren’t impressed by Emanuel and Reid’s plan to manipulate them into backing off of their support for tort reform. A poll on Sermo.com – a Facebook-like site which represents 110,000 real world physicians who sacrifice their own time to participate in a serious public debate about health care (in contrast to the American Medical Association, which represents itself and its Washington lobbying shop) included troubling results for the Democrats negotiating in secret. Sixty-five percent of nearly 1,000 respondents said they were “very concerned” about the Senate passing a fix for their own profession that was not offset, and 77 percent said they were “very unsatisfied” or “unsatisfied” with the substance of the so-called fix.

If the first lesson is to get serious about the deficit, the second lesson for the White House is to go back to first principles and conduct this effort with more maturity and less partisanship.

When Barack Obama launched his campaign in 2007 he said, “… it’s not the magnitude of our problems that concerns me the most. It’s the smallness of our politics … We have to change our politics, and come together around our common interests and concerns as Americans.”

Why then, on the eve of the most important domestic policy debate in a generation, are the President’s advisers talking about Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News? Is this really a common interest and concern among Americans? Would the average voter consider this form of politics to be big or small?

By spending time on juvenile and crass partisan strategies the President’s advisers triangulated the wrong target – their own allies. Their tone and tactics united Republicans (all 40 voted against the doctor fix) and caused 12 key allies to fall away.

The Barack Obama I know and worked with in the Senate (through his initiation) is capable of so much more. America needs that Barack Obama to change the tone and go back to attacking problems rather than personalities.

If he does, he’ll find plenty of friends ready to work with him – old and new. Every Republican wants to enact comprehensive health care reform that lowers costs, improves quality and increases choice. No matter how often our motives are questioned we will be ready to discuss plans like the Patients’ Choice Act, which I’m sponsoring with Senator Burr (R-NC) and Representatives Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Devin Nunes (R-CA), that cover more people than the Democrat plans without pushing our economy off a cliff.

Yes, elections have consequences. The White House certainly has the right to continue its clever partisan strategy. Yet, history shows this process will succeed only if it is truly bipartisan. The doctor fix debate showed that partisanship is the far riskier road.

From a fellow Blogger:

Before I get into the details of the title of this post, let me say that I already know some of you are going to want to react to what I write with a bit of malice. I’ve taken a little heat for my post ripping Newt Gingrich about his “Party over Principles” stance over on my personal blog, so I fully understand there are folks who feel very passionate about this issue. But let me also say that for every email against my position, there are twenty in support of it.

If you’re one of the few who are angry about all of this, do us a favor and point the fingers in the right direction.

If you haven’t been following the NY23 special election, I highly recommend you go read the scoop on my blog. In short, the GOP establishment took the liberty movement for granted, jumped behind the wrong candidate (a far left, liberal Republican) and expected the base to just fold and follow their pick without complaint.

At first. this all just appeared to be a poorly calculated decision for the beltway thugs who pretend to be the conservative movement. I mean, back when Newt Gingrich endorsed far left liberal Dede Sozzafava in the race, the grassroots movement was hardly paying attention. It wasn’t until about two weeks ago when the rest of the country realized what was going on.

During the past week, many movement conservatives have shown full support for conservative candidate Doug Hoffman in the race. Sarah Palin, Dick Armey, Club for Growth and MANY others have thrown their political weight behind him.

And not just the “players”… the Tea Party Movement has gotten involved in a huge way. Using the internet as vessel, the message of conservative candidate Doug Hoffman has traveled far and wide, and support for him has exploded.

Which left egg on the faces of all the establishment heads who jumped into the liberal Republican camp early on.

Mistakes were made. No doubt about it. But here is where it gets wild. Instead of doing the right thing, Newt Gingrich and crew have dug in their heels and are strongly defending their position.

Damage control was possible about five days ago, but now they’ve lost their chance. There is no turning back. They made the wrong choice. The refused to admit it and join the true base of the movement. And now they’re actually trying to preach to us that more of the same is needed to fix the problems more of the same created.

Bizarre.

All that said, one would think these groups would now keep their mouths shut and try to minimize the damage, right?

Wrong.

Politico reported today that the NRCC is actually goinjg to step up their efforts and dump another $300,000 into to media buys for far left candidate Dede Scozzafava.

The National Republican Congressional Committee remains committed to embattled GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava in the upstate New York House special election, even as many of the party’s top names throw their support to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.

Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman.

Scozzafava, a state assemblywoman who supports gay marriage, abortion rights and has a close relationship with leading labor officials in her region, has been the target of sustained criticism from conservatives who claim she is too liberal for them to support her candidacy.

Not only is the NRCC going to waste donor dollars on a failed candidate with no hope of winning the race, they’re also going to attack the actual conservative in the race!

At this point, the only logical conclusion is that the NRCC (a huge hub of establishment consultants who leech off of donor money) and the rest of the old guard will arm itself for battle and wage war against the grassroots base rather than give it control.

For those in our movement who are saying “we don’t need to wage war against the machine right now”… wake up. The machine is waging war against you.

This is a fight the movement has been itching for. In my opinion, we should confront this machine and do so immediately.

Food for thought.

-Eric Odom

Capt. Karl’s Reply / Comment:

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me ten times, shame on me. How many times do the Republicans get to tell us Jeffersonian Constitutionalists that they are for freedom, liberty and completely support The Declaration of Independence and the dovetail Constitution of the United States only to find out that their actions are, in large measure, opposed to their rhetoric? After the behaviors of the last Republican Congress I am even beginning to wonder what the term RINO really means any more?

When in the last ten decades has any Republican party rolled back the heinous usurpations that started with the ratification of the non-ratified 16th Amendment by the lying Secretary of State Philanderer Knox and his boss in crime President Woodrow Wilson? Not to mention the Constitutional atrocity of The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 that was passed on either Christmas Eve or the day before when President Woodrow Wilson held corruptible Congressmen from Christmas break to fulfill his commitment to the owner bankers of the cartel of twelve privately held huge banks that now make up The Federal Reserve “System”, for the endless campaign funds that they provided for his election, which allowed the tyrants in the U.S. Congress and several Administrations to borrow us into incremental oblivion and all manner of Constitutional contempt ever since.

Benjamin Franklin once said; “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. “ It should be obvious to all of us now that simply electing Republicans is not the answer to our problems. The answer is in finding a way to ENFORCE THE LAW that we wrote, established and ordained in The Constitution by our individual authority bestowed upon us by our creator. Especially, but not limited to, Article 1 Section 8 as further supported by the 9th and 10th Amendments in The Bill of Rights.

Is it not clear that, according to THE LAW, the U.S. Government was ‘borrowed’ certain powers by us, from our authority given to us individually by our creator, to ONLY handle these SEVENTEEN ‘enumerated’ powers for the ‘privilege’ of serving us at and for our convenience? Is it not true that the veracity of this is clearly written in The Declaration of Independence as followed up by the dovetail LAWs as written in The Constitution? When, may I ask, did any Republican serve to reverse any significant numbers of usurpations of authority enacted through these nearly ten decades of incremental tyranny, which have ultimately resulted in the clear display of despotism we see by our current non-representing Representatives and Administration on TV nightly?

It may be true that Democrats are even worse, but for me, I will never ever vote for a Republican again unless he or she promises to completely reverse EVERY SINGLE character of constitutionally contemptuous usurpation in legislation ever drafted.

If the Federal Government were to obey the law, especially but not limited to, Article 1 Section 8, can you imagine how, after about five years of the imminent financial hardship which lies before us due to our unsustainable economy based on pieces of almost worthless paper and ink called FEDERAL RESERVE “NOTES” that are worth 100 cents each only in our minds, when in reality they are worth 2 – 3 cents each, crashing,,, quickly the vast majority of our average common workingmen and women would become relatively wealthy once again in the environment of true liberty and freedom. The potential of what would happen if the LAW was obeyed by our Federal Government is almost too much for the human mind to comprehend. Ask yourself, how fast would we individually recover financially if we were free to keep almost everything we earned rather than Government spending it? Just the thought of all of those Trillions being left in our hands and our economy is utterly mind blowing.

Would any Republican be willing to force compliance with Constitutional Law in full force and effect? I don’t think that these liars would. And this comment is coming from a registered Republican and supporter of 32 years.

BUT NO MORE! You are either for the complete Constitution WORD FOR WORD, in spirit and intent as it WAS meant when it was ratified or you can FORGET MY VOTE! PERIOD! You damn lying traitors!

This week the Wisconsin transportation fund registered a deficit of almost $50 million.

Wisconsin has recently been treated to a Keystone Cops performance by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union (IAM), which seems intent on putting its own members out of work.

The Liberty Tree Lantern has received reports that Dr. Steve Kagen has been seen walking around like a zombie after the two “listening sessions” in Green Bay and Appleton Wisconsin Monday and Tuesday.

Here are some of the discussions that we have been able to procure for our readership regarding Wisconsin Congressman Steve Kagen and his fellow Democrats and their behaviors with regards to the Healthcare Bill / Healthcare Reform HR 3200, TARP, TALF, Bailouts, Corporate takeovers, Nationalization of companies, private companies “fusing in with Government”, Stimulus packages, Cap-n-tax, pork barrel, all sorts of “free” social services and healthcare for ILLEGAL Immigrants throughout America, and all manner of Socialism, Communism and Fascism under the Voodoo of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid :

Above: Local northeastern Wisconsin citizens talking about Congressman Steve Kagen and Congresswoman Priestess Nancy Pelosi Healthcare Voodoo

How is our U.S. economy going to survive Social Security and Medicare, $90 Trillion Dollars in UNFUNDED Liabilities, over the infinite horizon, just for these TWO programs alone? ? ? How are we going to afford another Ponzi scheme like NATIONALIZED “free” Healthcare?

Somehow I think only a zombie under the Hoodoo and Voodoo of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi could live with anymore “free stuff” from the U.S. Government. How are we citizens going to afford all of the “free stuff” like Social Security and Medicare and all manner of other free stuff like “Cash for Clunkers” when the bill comes due in a year or two? What are we citizens going to do when they take the costs for all of this “Free Stuff” out of our paychecks next year in the form of Federal Withholding to the tune of 80% or more of our earnings? Then we will all be Zombie Socialists with nowhere to run.

If government-run health care is such a great idea, why won't members of Congress enroll their own families?

The question has been on the minds of many Americans, but Democrats aren't giving answers. Instead, they are exempting themselves from their own health care "reform."

The Affordable Health Choices Act drafted by Sen. Edward Kennedy's staff and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee pushes "Americans into stingy insurance plans with tight, HMO-style controls," the Wall Street Journal reports.

At the same time, Page 114 of the act specifically exempts members of Congress from the public plan.

If government-run health care is such a great idea, why won’t members of Congress enroll their own families?

The question has been on the minds of many Americans, but Democrats aren’t giving answers. Instead, they are exempting themselves from their own health care “reform.”

The Affordable Health Choices Act drafted by Sen. Edward Kennedy’s staff and the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee pushes “Americans into stingy insurance plans with tight, HMO-style controls,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

At the same time, Page 114 of the act specifically exempts members of Congress from the public plan.

The bill mandates that all other Americans enroll in “qualified” health plans and submit proof of enrollment to the government.

Everyone must report “the name, address, and taxpayer identification number of each individual who is covered under health insurance that is qualifying coverage” and include the “number of months during the calendar year during which each such individual was covered under such health insurance,” along with “such other information as the Secretary may prescribe.”

Under his plan for health “reform,” President Obama has promised Americans that citizens will have the same health care options members of Congress receive. During his presidential campaign, he told an audience in Canton, Ohio, in October 2008: “If you don’t have health insurance, you’ll be able to get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress give themselves.”

At a news conference June 23, Obama said people will be able to choose their insurance “the same way that federal employees do, same way that members of Congress do.”

According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, “Federal employees, retirees and their survivors enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country. You can choose from among Consumer-Driven and High Deductible plans that offer catastrophic risk protection with higher deductibles, health savings/reimbursable accounts and lower premiums, or Fee-for-Service (FFS) plans, and their Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO), or Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) if you live (or sometimes if you work) within the area serviced by the plan.”

Mark McClellan, a doctor and economist at the Brookings Institution, told USA Today he believes Congress gets a great deal when it comes to health care options.

“It’s significantly more generous than most Americans are getting,” said McClellan. According to the report, members of Congress also receive medical care from a Capitol doctor for a small charge and my get treatment at military hospitals – the same medical care offered to presidents and visiting dignitaries.

“They get what bureaucrats get – plus,” said Steve Ellis with Taxpayers for Common Sense.

In a June 24 ABC News health care forum anchored from the White House by Diane Sawyer and Charles Gibson, Dr. Orrin Devinsky, a neurologist and researcher at the New York University Langone Medical Center, pointed out that members of Congress may propose government health care solutions for the American public that limit medical care options.

Meanwhile, he explained that lawmakers know that if their own family gets sick, they will be able to afford the best care available, even if it’s not provided by insurance.

The following is a video of the discussion:

He asked President Obama if he wouldn’t seek outside care for his wife or daughters if they became ill and his public plan limited treatment and tests.

Devinsky asked:

If your wife or your daughter became seriously ill, and things were not going well, and the plan physicians told you they were doing everything that could reasonably be done, and you sought out opinions from some medical leaders in major centers and they said there’s another option you should pursue, but it was not covered in the plan, would you potentially sacrifice the health of your family for the greater good of insuring millions or would you do everything you possibly could as a father and husband to get the best health care and outcome for your family?

Rep. John Fleming

The president would not pledge not to seek outside care, though he said, “I think families all across America are going through decisions like that all the time. And, you’re absolutely right that if it’s my family member, if it’s my wife, if it’s my children, if it’s my grandmother, I always want them to get the very best care.

“There’s a whole bunch of care that’s being provided that every study, that every bit of evidence that we have indicates may not be making us healthier,” he said.

But Rep. John Fleming, R-La., a physician, asks if public health care is such a great idea, why don’t members of Congress who vote for it actually sign up their own families?

He has offered H. Res. 615 with 53 Republican co-sponsors, which states:

Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that members who vote in favor of the establishment of a public, federal government run health insurance option are urged to forgo their right to participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and agree to enroll under that public option.

Fleming said that under both the House and Senate proposals, members of Congress won’t have to participate in the government plan for at least five years – and even after five years, enrollment will still be considered optional. Meanwhile, every other American will be forced to comply with government rules by obtaining “qualifying” plans.

Fleming told Fox News, “All these health care bills that are coming out on the Democrats’ side – the ‘reform’ bills – basically say that Congress is exempt for at least the first five years, and perhaps longer,” he said. “I’ve issued H. Res. 615 that simply says, look, if you vote for this, then you should choose it.”

He continued, “We’ve reached out to every Democrat in the House, and we have yet to have a taker. They want it for every American – except for members of Congress.”

Fleming’s bill has been referred to the House Committee on House Administration.

On July 16, Rep. Dean Heller, R.-Nev., offered a similar amendment to H.R. 3200 during the House Ways and Means Committee markup that would require members of Congress to enroll in its own government-run health care program. Democrats defeated the amendment by a vote of 21 to 18.

A USA Today/Gallup Poll out Tuesday morning delivers some bad news for Barack Obama.

Here are the key finding of the national poll:

By 49%-47%, those surveyed disapprove of how he is handling the economy, a turnaround from his 55%-42% approval in May. The steepest drop came from conservative and moderate Democrats.

By 50%-44%, they disapprove of how he is handling healthcare policy.

A 59% majority say his proposals call for too much government spending, and 52% say they call for too much expansion of government power.

Expectations of the economy’s turnaround are souring a bit. In February, the average prediction for a recovery was 4.1 years; now it’s 5.5 years.

The USA Today/Gallup Poll is sure undermine the President’s position as he pushes for his ambitious universal healthcare plan.

“His ratings have certainly come back down to Earth in a very short time period,” Republican pollster Whit Ayres told USA Today.
