International climate treaty feared for impact on liberties

A video explaining the dangers of a U.N. treaty proposal promoted by President Obama that critics say would lead to a world government has received more than 3.5 million views since WND broke the story on the ominous possibilities, and now there is word from the Obama administration the plan might not be going so smoothly.

In the video, Lord Christopher Monckton, a former science adviser to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, asserts the real purpose of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen Dec. 7-18 is to use concern over “global warming” as a pretext to lay the foundation for a one-world government.

At the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen “this December, weeks away, a treaty will be signed,” Lord Christopher Monckton told a Minnesota Free Market Institute audience at Bethel University in St. Paul.

According to the Minnesota Free Market Institute, the video, as originally posted, has collected 2.2 million views and almost 700 pages of comments, but there also are more than 100 other cloned versions of Monckton’s comments on YouTube and the aggregate views exceed 3.5 million.

The video helped launch a national petition drive opposing the Copenhagen treaty at NoCapAndTrade.com, with its more than 135,000 messages to Congress opposing the plan. It’s been discussed by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham and Michelle Malkin, among others.

Now there are indications the light of information being spread about the potential problems is casting shadows on the proposal.

“The more people learn about the supposed issue of ‘climate change’ and how green extremists intend to control our lives, the more skeptical they become,” said Jeff Davis, president of the Minnesota Majority.

Get “The Sky’s Not Falling! Why it’s OK to chill on global warming”

Further, Michael Froman, deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs, said in a Bloomberg report today the latest word on Copenhagen is an “assessment by the leaders that it was unrealistic to expect a full, internationally legally binding agreement to be negotiated between now and when Copenhagen starts.”

Davis said the impact of Monckton’s warning is becoming apparent in other ways. He cited a decision just days ago by key U.S. Senate Democrats who confirmed it is unlikely there will be any additional action on climate-change legislation this year. Obama had hoped to pass a cap-and-trade energy taxation plan before the Copenhagen conference.

Bloomberg’s report confirmed leaders from Asia have admitted a binding global-warming accord isn’t likely next month.

Obama attended a meeting

of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Singapore in which leaders proposed a two-stage approach to follow up the failed Kyoto Protocol, which sought to manage emissions worldwide but never earned the support of several of the world’s leading energy-consuming nations.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Rasmussen told Bloomberg there may be no “legally binding instrument,” although a political agreement is possible.

The 1997 Kyoto plan is scheduled to expire in three more years, but years of talks already held have failed to produce agreement on energy restrictions.

Instead, Rasmussen has suggested an agreement to cut greenhouse gases, with an outline for a political agreement that would be the subject of further negotiations.

At the Examiner, a blogger concluded, “The credibility of global warming theories (and sanctimonious theorists) and any international climate controls are fading with each passing day.”

Monckton warned in the video that Obama supports the idea and is ready to sign on the dotted line.

“Your president will sign it. Most of the Third World countries will sign it, because they think they’re going to get money out of it. Most of the left-wing regimes from the European Union will rubber-stamp it. Virtually nobody won’t sign it,” Monckton told the audience of some 700 attendees.

“I read that treaty and what it says is this: that a world government is going to be created. The word ‘government’ actually appears as the first of three purposes of the new entity.”

He has warned the proposal would cede U.S. sovereignty, mandate a massive wealth transfer from the United States to pay reparations for “climate debt” to Third World countries and create a new “world government” to enforce the treaty’s provisions.

Davis also warned that while the apparent uncertainty over the treaty has bought some time, it’s not enough.

“Green extremists will be back in force trying to advance both domestic cap-and-trade legislation and an international climate treaty that will rob us of our liberties and grant government more control over our lives,” he said.

Monckton’s lecture can be viewed online and his slides also can be accessed on the Internet.

If we the people would make the 'decison' to force the Obama Administration to release Oil and Gas drilling leases, WHERE THE OIL and GAS IS, the price of energy would plummet because there are many HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of barrels of crude oil and untold volumes of natural gas in the Western Federal Lands and Offshore. The US Government IS selling leases all over America and even offshore in areas that they are confidently sure there is no Oil or Gas.

Regulatory Commissars: Oil Off Limits for Thriving Bears

Believing themselves to be smarter than the average bear, bureaucrats in the Obama administration continue their quest to create a, well, bear market — at least for oil. The White House decided to designate more than 200,000 square miles of Alaskan land and coastline as “critical habitat” for polar bears — the same bear population that has reached greater numbers than previously recorded in history. In fact, despite what Al Gore and his fellow global warmists would have us believe, the population has actually risen by 40 percent since 1974.

This new non-endangered species habitat is enormous enough to qualify as the third largest state in the union, placing it between Texas and California in terms of square miles. Former UnitedHealth general counsel and now Assistant Interior Secretary Tom Strickland claimed at a news conference that the greatest threat to the bear is Arctic ice melt and that “we will continue to work to protect the polar bear and its fragile environment.”

However, the new designation as a critical habitat is the first step in requiring even more government consideration of the supposed negative effect on the escalating polar bear numbers before allowing oil and gas development. The state of Alaska responded by filing a complaint in an effort to stop the listing under the Endangered Species Act.

In the meantime, some 30 percent of the world’s gas supplies and 4 percent of the estimated global oil supply will be placed off limits because of this deceitful claim that the polar bear population is endangered. Next up, the loggerhead turtle, which, if listed as endangered, would bring regulations on everything along the eastern seaboard, including what lights you can put on the ocean-facing side of your house.

Here are some more reasons:

Utah – Contrary to his campaign pronouncements to free the U.S. from foreign oil, the Obama administration is blocking oil leases awarded last year. The move would put the land off limit to oil and gas exploration. You can read these articles from the Salt Lake Tribune, New West and a couple blurbs from the Wall Street Journal and on National Parks Traveler.

The bottomline, folks, is that the Obama Administration is PURPOSEFULLY causing electric, heat, gasoline, food and all transportation prices to skyrocket for all Americans – ON PURPOSE. If you doubt this writer, would you believe Barack Obama if he told you himself? Or would you call him a complete liar? The only question you need to ask yourself is; Is Barack Obama a liar? If you don’t think he is a liar that means that you believe him when he says;

As you can see and hear for yourself, besides SIGNIFICANTLY raising the cost of living, for all Americans, by purposely causing the production of oil and gas energy to be slowed way down as highlighted above, he and the US Congress wants to tax the living heck out of it, the cost of such taxes to be passed down to every single American who turns on lights and/or heats their home. Once Barack Obama and his hand selected “green” Socialist / Communists accomplish their “change” few of us will be able to afford to live anymore. How are you doing with your bills and taxes right now? All of your bills, right down to food and all taxes will be going up DRAMATICALLY over the next year. And most Socialists and all Tories amongst us thinks that is a very very good thing. Just ask them. You should consider yourself lucky if you have any “change” left in your pocket in about one year.

If we the people would make the ‘decison’ to force the Obama Administration to release Oil and Gas drilling leases, WHERE THE OIL and GAS IS, the price of energy would plummet because there are many HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of barrels of crude oil and untold volumes of natural gas in the Western Federal Lands and Offshore. The US Government IS selling leases all over America and even offshore in areas that they are confidently sure there is no Oil or Gas.

It is The Liberty Tree Lantern’s opinion that this sham by the US Government, which is affecting our lives and, combined with this economy and job loss, may even kill some of us this winter, must end. Letting the Federal Government compel us have to live with icicles hanging from our nostils shouldn’t be allowed by us – We The People. Wake UP, people! Don’t let the Federal Government do this to us! In a “free” society, in the end, it is us that borrowed them our authority, we do have the right and the duty to take it back in the face of utter despotism and tyranny. See: The Declaration of Independence

Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Barack Obama both lied about the Federal Government would receive HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of more in taxes from ALL Americans including average working Americans at all pay levels. These Cap and Trade Taxes would amount to a 15% increase in taxes for ALL Americans.

The Treasury Department provided a report providing the information on the MASSIVE TAX INCREASE, for Cap and Trade, on March 9th 2009 to Congress and President Obama. Regardless of receipt of the report they both LIED directly to the American public about the cost of this proposal in Congress. Waxman stated that it would only cost about 40 cents per day. Obama stated that it would only cost "about the same as a postage stamp per day".

Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Barack Obama both directly LIED right to the faces of Americans with regards to the MASSIVE TAX INCREASE as a result of the Waxman Markey Cap and Trade bill. According to the U.S. Treasury report dated March 9th the Federal Government will receive HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of more in taxes from ALL Americans including average working Americans at all pay levels. These Cap and Trade Taxes would amount to a 15% increase in taxes for ALL Americans.

Regardless of receipt of the report they both LIED directly to the American public about the cost of this proposal now in Congress. Waxman stated that it would only cost about 40 cents per day. Obama stated that it would only cost ”about the same as a postage stamp per day”.

Waxman and Obama BOTH - – - LIED BY OVER 1,200 PERCENT!

See for yourself, in the following video, the horrendous corruption of the U.S. Congress. See what this MASSIVE TAX increase for Cap and Trade will cost you as reported by The U.S. Treasury Department as received by Henry Waxman and Barack Obama BEFORE they lied to us about the cost of the Waxman – Markey Cap and Trade Climate bill. It seems self-evident that President Obama, Henry Waxman and the vast majority of both houses of Congress are trying to make us Americans go broke. The only question is,,, Why? In any case, they certainly cannot be trusted. :

by David Nace

Like it or not we live in a global economy. If the Obama administration enacts policies that make it too expensive to manufacture products in the United States, those products will be made in other countries and shipped here.

Numerous studies have documented how the grossly misnamed Affordable Energy Act of 2009, also known as Cap and Trade or more accurately Cap and Tax, will raise the cost of energy for every American. If the cost of all energy rises dramatically, will industrial production stay in this country or will it move to China or India that is not constrained by the cost of energy regulations? China and India already enjoy a significant cost advantage over American producers in many fields; this will just exacerbate that advantage.

While the US taxpayers are paying to support the preservation of United Auto Workers jobs, with outlandish pay and benefit costs, at GM and Chrysler, the same administration is willing to drive industrial production overseas. Perhaps this is why the administration is also supporting Card Check legislation that will allow easy unionization of millions of workers in the service industries. It knows that its other policies will destroy millions of well paying industrial jobs in this country. Based upon the Spanish government’s experiences with subsidizing alternative energy sources through higher conventional energy prices, Cap and Tax will destroy 2 million jobs per year in this country.

For such a damaging plan to be seriously considered there must be a group that benefits from its passage. Just as Joseph Kennedy benefited handsomely from FDR’s programs in the 1930’s, it turns out that some of main benefactors of this program are also politically very well connected.

In 2004, Al Gore, former Vice President and author of Inconvenient Truth, started Generational Investment Management (GIM) to provide funding to businesses associated with alternative energy. GIM also happens to own 10% of the Chicago Climate Exchange, which will issue the carbon credits that Cap and Tax legislation is based upon.

In 2007, Al Gore became a partner in the venture capital firm of Kleiman, Perkins, Claufield and Byers (KPCB). This firm is heavily invested in renewable energy and electrical grid improvements. The market for their products is almost completely dependent on government programs in the form of subsidies, tax breaks or regulation. Al Gore’s contribution to KPCB is to promote government intervention into the energy markets.

It is not surprising that venture capital firms and investment firms that will have a stake in the trading of carbon credits, have made extensive campaign contributions to those legislators proposing Cap and Trade legislation. Clearly, the American public looses in the form of higher energy costs and lost jobs however, a few politically well connected individuals will have much to gain as the result of further government regulation of energy consumption.

Posted: September 11, 2009

© 2009 WorldNetDaily

The Chinese – and soon Middle East interests – are preparing to buy up oil resources in North America even as “green” interests threaten to short-circuit U.S. access to the same energy, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

Canadian tar sands

While the U.S. State Department has issued a permit for a multibillion-dollar pipeline to carry crude oil from Canada’s tar sands to U.S. refineries, environmental groups are threatening to impede its construction. Some are trying to delay the project for years by putting it in the middle of the court system.

Meanwhile, the Chinese are in the process of spending billions of dollars to develop the resource and possibly deny the U.S. a secure strategic source of oil.

Environmentalists are upset over the approval of the pipeline, saying the Obama administration has reneged on its commitment to reduce pollution emissions by endorsing what the “green” interests described as the “environmental catastrophe” of tar sands

The proposed 1,000-mile crude oil pipeline would run between Hardisty, Alberta, Canada, and Superior, Wis.

While the environmental battle rages in the U.S., the Chinese, and soon the United Arab Emirates, will be spending billions of dollars to lay claim to the Canadian tar sands themselves.

The Chinese are investing in lands that contain the valuable resource, thereby controlling access to it.

The resource is in Canada’s Alberta province. In the United States, similar tar sands are concentrated primarily in eastern Utah, mostly on public lands. Tar sands in Utah are estimated to hold from 12 to 19 billion barrels.

But due to political concerns at the federal, state and local levels in the U.S., opponents have worked to prevent tapping into the oil from tar sands, citing low-carbon emission requirements. According to energy experts, however, there is no difference in oil once it goes through the refining process.

The Chinese, who are scouring the world for available oil to meet the demands of their burgeoning population, have made an initial $2 billion investment in a 5-billion barrel reserve of what the U.S. refers to as “dirty oil.”

However, energy experts are uncomfortable with the idea that a secure energy resource for the U.S. may be allowed to go to Chinese and Middle East ownership.

PetroChina will make the initial down payment for the tar sands at the MacKay River and Dover tar sands projects owned by Canada’s Calgary-based Athabasca Oil Sands Corp. The project is expected to cost around $20 billion. Considered the world’s most valuable oil company, PetroChina will also provide some financing for Athabasca which controls some 1.3 million acres of tar sands.

Given the investment to build the capability to extract the oil from the tar sands, energy experts believe that oil extraction efforts will only remain viable if crude oil prices remain above $80 a barrel.

To date, much of China’s investment in oil has been in conventional oil reserves, with only small investments in oil sands.

Similar to China, the government of the United Arab Emirates has shown interest in the tar sands as an investment, even though it has almost 10 percent of the known global oil reserves.

God created all sorts of energy resources, only a few of which have been developed and utilized to drive our economy. Energy is the life blood of freedom and it is what allows our economy to produce individual wealth for all Americans. And, this is why energy, in all forms, is so very important to the average working American. Cheap inexpensive oil is what results in the costs of everything to go down to reasonable affordable levels for us all. When energy is inexpensive it is also an incentive for Americans to start new small businesses, because then it is easier to make a good profit, and therefore lower energy costs results in hundreds of thousands of new jobs and allows for significant increases in money available for wages on the shop floor or out in the field.

Energy prices, like prices for everything, are determined by the principles of supply and demand. The more supply of energy the United States has available to meet the demand of our large and small businesses and individual needs and desires the less it costs. That is why we the American people have so much power to lower the cost of our energy and make ourselves individually more wealthy.

The fact is that there are HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of barrels of oil and vast volumes of natural gas available DOMESTICALLY right here in and around America. In addition America has vast resources in coal energy. Combining the unfathomable quantities of these resources with new developing energy sources would immensely improve all of our families’ economic conditions. The Liberty Tree Lantern is astonished at how little the mainstream media is reporting all of the new and existing volumes of domestic energy available for us. We also find it interesting how little it is reported that the Obama Administration is standing in the way of releasing the leases necessary to drill and harvest these vast resources that would so greatly improve our economy and restore the prosperity of individual citizens.

What we need to do as Americans is to get together and with one Tea Party like voice demand that Obama and his Secretary of The Interior release the leases that our Oil companies need to drill for oil out west on federal lands and offshore all around our country and Alaska so that we can build up America and strengthen our freedom through massive infusions of domestic energy.

The Liberty Tree Lantern is happy to provide just one story, of dozens of available, regarding domestic American energy just waiting for the Obama Administration to let us produce the energy we so desperately need to lower our costs of everything. Please send a personal message to Congress via, paper, e-mail and phone that you want Obama to release the drilling leases immediately. Tell them to DRILL HERE AND DRILL NOW! (Do you know that Obama is stealing American taxpayer money to “give” to Brazil for ‘them’ to drill for oil offshore? See: U.S. Taxpayers to Provide Financing To Brazil for “Their” Offshore Drilling)

When you write or talk to your Congressman, make sure that you mention that the LAST thing we need are taxes on energy that will increase costs on every single thing the American family needs to live and businesses need to create well paying jobs. Reject Cap-n-TAX in any form, folks, because such taxes will set our entire country back by decades destroy jobs, wealth, savings and create poverty.

The Liberty Tree Lantern has a few questions for our readers to ponder:

Why, after the people of America demanded that the ban on offshore and western Federal Lands expire, which it did some months ago now, has the Obama Administration withheld exploration leases and not allowed oil companies to go where they know the domestic oil likely is for exploration and harvest?

Why is the Obama Administration keeping America from our own domestic energy instead of depending on and importing energy from other countries?

Why doesn’t the majority of mainstream media report on the Billions of Barrels of crude oil available in Western Federal Lands and offshore when this energy would obviously improve the lives of so many Americans?

America is in a horrible recession RIGHT NOW that could OBVIOUSLY be greatly remedied by dramatically increasing that availability of our own massive volumes of domestic energy, doesn’t the Obama Administration care about the average individual American who is out of work and quickly running out of money due to job loss and increased prices on utility bills, gasoline, food and just about everything else?

Dear Karl,

Activists like you won an amazing policy victory last year when public outrage forced Congress to finally end its ban on offshore drilling, after 26 long years of keeping America’s vast energy resources in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) locked up and off the market.A year later, the Obama administration is doing everything it can to drag its feet and prevent us from accessing American energy resources. They are trying to ignore the millions of Americans who demanded access to American energy resources by secretly putting the ban back in place.

Even more amazing and outrageous: the Obama administration is now actually poised to lend $2 billion from U.S. taxpayers to the Brazilian national oil company, Petrobras, for offshore drilling in Brazil.

This administration is actually going to force you to pay for offshore drilling in Brazil, at the same time they try to block offshore drilling here in America!

Fortunately, you can do something about it. The Obama administration is required by law to listen to public comments on the subject of energy exploration and production in the OCS.

Please click here to tell the Obama administration to allow offshore drilling here in America!

Offshore drilling in the OCS would be a real economic stimulus that would create jobs and economic growth by actually producing something. A study from ICF International estimates more than 160,000 well-paying American jobs would be created from allowing oil and gas drilling offshore. Government policy to prevent these jobs by banning access to our own resources is completely unacceptable at a time of 9.4 percent unemployment.

According to federal government estimates, the OCS contains 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. We all remember what a hardship it was when gas prices spiked over $4 a gallon last year. We also remember being told that allowing drilling wouldn’t help because it could take years for the new energy sources to reach the market. Well that’s why we can’t wait until the next price spike to start drilling. We need to drill here in America, and do it now.

Please click here to tell the Obama administration to allow offshore drilling here in America!

We only have three weeks until the docket closes on September 21 to make our voices heard, and the radical environmentalists will be sure to weigh in from the other side. Please comment today and pass this email on to anyone you know who can help.

We have been posting several articles about the importance of the Obama Administration to release the leases to the oil companies so that we the people of America can benefit from the MASSIVE quantities of energy that our dear Lord has blessed us with in the western federal lands as well as offshore all around America and in Alaska. Once we rebuild America from the collapse of “The MATRIX” we are going to really need a lot of “domestic” energy to supply the huge economy that will be created from the U.S. Government being FORCED to comply with the LAWs that we wrote in the Constitution to bind them to ONLY SEVENTEEN ‘enumerated’ things, “listed” in the Constitution, that We The People ‘borrowed’ them OUR authority that we were given by God, to handle. When our Government collapses down to the size and spending level called for in the enumerated powers clauses, it will only be 1/5th its current size and spending level. The balance will remain in our productive hands and in our economy. That is going to take a huge amount of energy where we need ALL SOURCES of energy to feed, because then the vast majority of our average common citizens will become wealthy off of their own hard work, sweat and risk.

In the meantime we could all use a little relief at the pump and on our utility bills. Once all of these leases are released by Obama and his Administration, the cost of a barrel of oil will drop dramatically and will aid our economy and employment immensely.

So please so contact our Government and follow the recommendation of my friend Mr. Phil Kerpin. – - Capt. Karl

Ronald Bailey | August 27, 2009, 7:36pm

A new study in the journal Science by a team of international of researchers led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research have found that the sunspot cycle has a big effect on the earth’s weather. The puzzle has been how fluctuations in the sun’s energy of about 0.1 percent over the course of the 11-year sunspot cycle could affect the weather? The press release describing the new study explains:

The team first confirmed a theory that the slight increase in solar energy during the peak production of sunspots is absorbed by stratospheric ozone. The energy warms the air in the stratosphere over the tropics, where sunlight is most intense, while also stimulating the production of additional ozone there that absorbs even more solar energy. Since the stratosphere warms unevenly, with the most pronounced warming occurring at lower latitudes, stratospheric winds are altered and, through a chain of interconnected processes, end up strengthening tropical precipitation.

At the same time, the increased sunlight at solar maximum causes a slight warming of ocean surface waters across the subtropical Pacific, where Sun-blocking clouds are normally scarce. That small amount of extra heat leads to more evaporation, producing additional water vapor. In turn, the moisture is carried by trade winds to the normally rainy areas of the western tropical Pacific, fueling heavier rains and reinforcing the effects of the stratospheric mechanism.

The top-down influence of the stratosphere and the bottom-up influence of the ocean work together to intensify this loop and strengthen the trade winds. As more sunshine hits drier areas, these changes reinforce each other, leading to less clouds in the subtropics, allowing even more sunlight to reach the surface, and producing a positive feedback loop that further magnifies the climate response.

These stratospheric and ocean responses during solar maximum keep the equatorial eastern Pacific even cooler and drier than usual, producing conditions similar to a La Nina event. However, the cooling of about 1-2 degrees Fahrenheit is focused farther east than in a typical La Nina, is only about half as strong, and is associated with different wind patterns in the stratosphere.

Are these new findings relevant to scientific analyses of man-made global warming? The Christian Science Monitor reports:

For those wondering how the study bears on global warming, Gerald Meehl, lead author on the study, says that it doesn’t – at least not directly….

Global warming is a long-term trend, Dr. Meehl says in a phone conversation. By contrast, this study attempts to explain the processes behind a periodic occurrence. But, he says, a model finally able to reproduce a complex phenomenon observed in the real world does suggest that our climate models – the same ones we use to predict what will happen to global climate as we ratchet up co2 concentrations – are improving. And that will, inevitably, have an affect on the climate discussion.

A recent paper in Eos considers the evidence that we could be in for an extended period with few sunspots:

Why is a lack of sunspot activity interesting? During the period from 1645 to 1715, the Sun entered a period of low activity now known as the Maunder Minimum, when through several 11- year periods the Sun displayed few if any sunspots. Models of the Sun’s irradiance suggest that the solar energy input to the Earth decreased during that time and that this change in solar activity could explain the low temperatures recorded in Europe during the Little Ice Age.

Doesn’t the Eos paper suggest that sunspot activity may not just affect weather but climate too?

Dear Karl:

While we are working hard to help stop damaging policies like the Waxman-Markey climate legislation from being enacted, we also need to push hard to encourage positive solutions, such as increased domestic energy exploration and production. The federal Minerals Management Service (MMS) is now considering a new five-year leasing program that will greatly expand our nation’s access to the resource-rich Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). It is vital that the MMS hear strong support for moving forward with its plan to open 31 areas for oil and natural gas exploration. This plan will create thousands of new jobs, reduce our dependence on foreign fuel, and make our nation more energy secure.

The deadline to submit comments to MMS is September 21, so please communicate your support today. Click here to take action now!

When you write Congress and MMS, please emphasize the key reasons why it makes sense to develop energy resources on federal lands and offshore:

A revitalized exploration and production program could add 160,000 jobs to our nation’s damaged economy.
