What did the Founders really mean (by “General Welfare”)? After all, they’re the ones that can actually answer questions first hand concerning original meaning/intent and not be speculative or twisted politically by the passage of time wouldn’t you think?
OK, let’s see what they had to say and put this question to rest. Let’s ask James Madison, the Father of the Constitution, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Could they possibly shed any light on this?

James Madison, the father of our constitution, explained, “If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the general welfare, the government is no longer a limited one possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one subject to particular exceptions.” He later added, “With respect to the two words ‘general welfare,’ I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators.” Thomas Jefferson said, “Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated.” That means only those powers listed.

There is talk all over the world about a “new world currency”. When this happens our country, our sovereignty, our freedom and our liberty will simply and totally cease to exist.
People, my message to you today, and I have mentioned this to you before, is that The MATRIX, the economy that only exists in our American minds as we are foolish to actually believe that the dollar is really worth 100 cents when in the “REAL WORLD” outside of our programmed by the public school system, the Main Stream Media, and the U.S. Government minds, it is only worth 2 – 3 cents, has to be allowed to collapse. The ONLY way that The MATRIX will not collapse is for us to let our U.S. Government completely usurp our freedom, liberty and unalienable rights and become Socialist, Communist, Fascist slaves under a one Government U.N. style BIG BROTHER welfare State. And, even then the MATRIX will collapse because when the Government has us under their full and complete power, by the total destruction of The Constitution and the principles of The Declaration of Independence, they will not have to waste their time, effort and money on the costs associated with the maintenance of the sham of The MATRIX.

The Liberty Tree Lantern and all its posts are founded and grounded in the 28 principles of freedom as written in the book “The 5000 Year Leap”.
Subsequently all posts here in should be interpreted as based on the following principles. If any reader does not see how any post in The Liberty Tree Lantern is not grounded in these principles, please be so kind as to bring such reason to the attention of Capt. “A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?”

CNBC’s Rick Santelli this morning at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange
With tongue only partially in cheek, a CNBC analyst on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange this morning responded to President Obama’s proposed $275 billion deficit-financed homeowner bailout plan and other massive spending measures with a call for a new “tea party.”
Rick Santelli, in a nearly three-minute rant that drew approving hoots and comments from nearby traders, said the Obama administration’s promotion of bad behavior must be causing the founding fathers to roll over in their graves.

The following is a 2009 resolution by The State of New Hampshire. This document sure looks good and therefore, I submit it to you for your information and to consider if we can improve ours perhaps utilizing some of the same language.
Please review and get back to me on this.
It is my understanding that two weeks ago there were eight States with legislation pending, strictly supporting the canons of the Constitution as per these Jefferson and Madison principles. In the last week there are twelve more mounting a force of twenty two of the fifty States and growing.

I would be willing to bet that you, reading this, do not realize that every single soul in our country, in 1775, naturally thought of themselves as British citizens of our existing Government. Even though our Government’s policemen and soldiers uniforms were red we all, at that time, thought of them as our policemen and soldiers doing their duty for our country and Government. But our Government became so oppressive and tyrannical that 30% of our population just couldn’t let it go on anymore. Many were upset at our Government for oppressive taxation and multiple acts of tyranny, disrespect for us and our concerns and even formal written petitions of grievances by our citizens that our Government just ignored and refused to redress. Oppressive laws on our daily lives became burdensome and created hardships and unnecessary costs on our families that our Government rationalized, spun and almost made to seem reasonable to some, perhaps many.

“I sincerely believe… that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” –Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816. ME 15:23

Representative Ron Paul of Texas has placed the blame for the current economic downturn squarely on missteps taken by U.S. government.
In an exclusive column for CNN, Paul describes how government intervention in the market has resulted in artificially inflated prices that do not match consumer demand.
