			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2><strong><em>ACORN Funder JPMorgan Chase Doesn’t Look Good in New Madoff Book </em><br />

<div>A new book by <em>Barron’s</em> reporter Erin Arvedlund asserts that banking giant JPMorgan Chase became aware of Madoff’s Ponzi scheme months before his arrest, prompting the bank to liquidate its positions in a Madoff-related fund. Yet, the bank continued to accept deposits into Madoff’s main account at the bank from unsuspecting investors who were about to lose everything.NLPC is a critic of JPMorgan Chase’s support for political and social causes that are contrary to the bank’s interests and hostile to the capitalist system itself, such as ACORN. Although these new revelations are a separate controversy, both reflect an apparent willingness by the firm to work with shady enterprises if it is perceived to be in its own interest.The book is titled <em>Too Good to be True</em>. Excerpts appeared in <em>Barron’s</em> over the weekend.</div>

<div>Arvedlund has a great deal of credibility on anything Madoff-related, having written a story in 2001 suggesting that Madoff’s consistent record of returns was suspect.</div>
<p>The only good thing that can be said about JPMorgan Chase is that, like Arvedlund, it was perceptive enough to smell the Madoff rat. But unlike Arvedlund, who tried to sound the alarm, JPMorgan Chase kept quiet and tried to protect itself.</p>
<p>Arvedlund explains:</p>
<blockquote><p>In 2006, JPMorgan Chase developed a derivative product for its wealthy clients. It was linked to the Fairfield Sentry Fund offered by the Madoff feeder Fairfield Greenwich. The bank offered investors &#8212; mostly in Europe &#8212; a note that paid three times the earnings, or returns, of the Sentry Fund. The note matured in five years. To hedge its risk on the derivative product, the bank invested in the Sentry Fund itself. This way, if the Sentry Fund did well, the bank&#8217;s returns would offset its obligation on the notes.</p>
<p>By the summer of 2008, JPMorgan Chase had deposited $250 million with the Sentry Fund. With the financial meltdown on Wall Street and around the world in full swing, most of the markets were down 30% or more, and yet the Sentry Fund reported gains of 5%. JPMorgan Chase began to grow suspicious.</p></blockquote>
<p>As a result:</p>
<blockquote><p>In September 2008, JPMorgan Chase quietly liquidated its entire $250 million position in the Sentry Fund, even though it remained liable on the derivatives it had sold to the wealthy clients. At the time, the Fairfield Sentry investment notes were showing a 5% gain for the year. The bank had concluded Madoff was a phony, and the only way to protect itself was to liquidate anything connected with Madoff.</p></blockquote>
<p>When JPMorgan Chase bought what was left of Bear Stearns last year, it inherited a relationship with Madoff that is also sure to raise more questions about its ethics. According to Arvedlund:</p>
<blockquote><p>Brokers who traded at Bear Stearns used the firm&#8217;s automated equity order system to buy and sell stocks. A broker would enter the stock symbol and the number of shares he or she wanted to trade. The system was supposed to do the rest: work to find the best counterparty to trade with from among the many market makers that traded with Bear Stearns. However, for Nasdaq stocks, Bear Stearns had an unwritten code: the system automatically defaulted to trade with Madoff.</p>
<p>Madoff reportedly paid Bear Stearns substantial fees for this default setting on their equity order system, and he may have paid other customers to do the same as well. Between 2000 and 2008, Bear Stearns&#8217; 400 or so brokers all used this system, and all their Nasdaq trades defaulted to Madoff. It was a big source of revenue for Madoff, and it vaulted Bear Stearns to a position as the largest counterparty trading with Madoff. The arrangement was in place when Bear Stearns went under in early 2008, and it continued under JPMorgan Chase.</p></blockquote>
<p>JPMorgan Chase and/or the JPMorgan Chase Foundation are major funders of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and related organizations. ACORN is a network of as many as 360 organizations, structured to escape accountability, a network far more complicated than anything Madoff ever constructed.</p>
<p>ACORN has had its own embezzlement scandal. Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke, stole nearly $1 million in 1999 and 2000. ACORN treated the crime as an internal matter and did not even notify its board. A whistle-blower made it public. Dale Rathke remained on ACORN’s payroll until June 2008.</p>
<p>According to its 2007 tax return (the most recent available), the JPMorgan Chase Foundation made a million-dollar gift to ACORN Housing, Inc. that year. This donation is likely the tip of the iceberg of the bank’s total support of ACORN. JPMorgan Chase is one of ACORN largest corporate backers, if not the largest. JPMorgan Chase can take a step toward accountability by disclosing the specifics of its support for ACORN.</p>
<p>Last fall, JPMorgan Chase accepted $25 billion in taxpayer TARP funds. In 2008, the top 200 bonus recipients at JPMorgan Chase received $1.12 billion. The firm had 1,144 employees who received a bonus of least $1 million last year, more than any other Wall Street firm.</p>
<p>You would think with all these millionaires walking around the company, there would be at least a passing acknowledgement of the wealth generation potential of a free economy. Not a chance.  CEO Jamie Dimon sneers at free market advocates. The firm funds a variety of anti-business activists, ACORN being just the most dramatic example.</p>
<p>Dimon is apparently not self-conscious either about ACORN’s role in the residential mortgage crisis, much of it driven by subprime lending. Starting in the Seventies, ACORN saw the big banks as shakedown targets. The weak-kneed executives at these institutions were pretty easy pickings.</p>
<p>ACORN screamed “racism.” It accused mortgage lenders of “redlining,” or denying credit to borrowers in certain areas. It picketed the homes of bank directors in leafy suburbs.<br />
A way out was offered to the banks. They could make contributions to ACORN and/or they could “invest” in ACORN Housing, which made loans to “underserved” borrowers.</p>
<p>They also could back off from opposition to a law called the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 that required banks and thrifts to lend more money from areas where they took deposits. It meant more loans to “underserved” communities, and a loosening of lending standards.</p>
<p>Of course, many of ACORN’s “deserving” borrowers were not deserving at all. Increasingly, the banks dumped the loans on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which were under pressure by Congressmen like Barney Frank (D-MA) to make more loans to the “underserved.”</p>
<p>The result was the mortgage meltdown that nearly took down our entire financial system, providing the justification for the massive bailouts of the banks. But Dimon acts like JMorgan Chase has no culpability because of its “solid” balance sheet.</p>
<p>According to Arvedlund, there are already civil suits against JPMorgan Chase by investors whose funds were acccepted into Madoff’s account at the bank after it had concluded that Madoff was a fraud. Of course, this may also be criminal, but there is no word that the bank is the target of a criminal investigation.</p>
<p>During the campaign, Dimon was a vocal supporter of Barack Obama. On July 18, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/19/business/19dimon.html?_r=1&amp;src=sch">the <em>New York Times</em> called Dimon “Obama’s favorite banker.”</a> Dimon may hope that this relationship will insulate his firm from prosecution in the Madoff case. In any event, JPMorgan Chase’s culture must be questioned, along with Dimon’s credibility and leadership.</p>

So you have never been even close to fully paid for your labor and you have never paid for anything your mind believes you paid for.  In essence nothing,<span style="text-decoration: underline"> IN A FINANCIAL SENSE</span>, you can see, touch or smell really exists because it was paid for with almost worthless pieces of paper with ink on it.  How can you buy a car or a refrigerator with nothing more than  pieces of paper with almost nothing backing it up, that is printed out of thin air on glorified computer printers at a Federal Reserve office?  If this is possible then how come only these super rich bankers can print out this Monopoly money, you have a computer printer too, why can&#8217;t you print your own?  The Banking cartel of twelve privately owned banks, do it almost every single day.  Now the question that will really blow your mind is; if you didn&#8217;t really pay for anything you have, because you used dollars that in the real world was only worth about 4 cents or less each, than who really owns it?  Someday soon we may all find out and it isn&#8217;t going to be pretty.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff">In any case this MATRIX is going to collapse, by something known as</span> <a href="http://captkarl.blogivists.com/2009/07/14/the-matrix-our-economy-that-only-exists-in-our-minds-is-soon-to-collapse/">hyper-inflation</a>, <span style="color: #0000ff">which is actually the revaluation of the dollar to its true value by the entire world, in less than three years.  Welcome this nightmare folks, because without the total collapse of the MATRIX we will never be free or have liberty, or ever be individually wealthy.  The MATRIX was created to imprison our minds and enslave us for the power and wealth of the power hungry megalomaniacs of the world; the forty owners of The Federal Reserve &#8220;System&#8221; and their cronies in the U.S. Government and in &#8216;certain&#8217; BIG Corporations.  </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff">Pray for the <span style="text-decoration: underline">temporary</span> horror of the utter collapse of The MATRIX, our economy, because if we each INDIVIDUALLY BUT UNITED fight for and   PERSONALLY   ENFORCE  the rule of LAW that we wrote, established and ordained in The Constitution upon our U.S. Government, word for word, in spirit and intent, as it WAS meant on the day it was ratified, then the vast majority of our common average working men and women will, through very hard work and the blessings of God, become wealthy with REAL money from our creator.  </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff">So pray people, pray for the end of our economy, THE MATRIX, our prison of the mind, which now uses each and every one of us as though we are utter slaves of &#8220;the system&#8221; being controlled and manipulated through usurpation, Constitutionally illegal legislation, tyranny, oppression, taxation and so-called tax credits where they first STEAL our earnings, before we even get them, in the form of Federal, FICA, and Medicare &#8221;withholding&#8221; and payroll taxes that we would have otherwise received from our employers on our paychecks, and then they say they will give us a &#8220;little fraction&#8221; of what they stole out of our paychecks IF we cow tow to their DEMANDS and mandates.  </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff">What gives them the right to hold us in such utter contempt, when it was We The people who &#8216;borrowed&#8217; them SEVENTEEN <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">enumerated items</span></strong> in <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec8">Article 1 Section 8</a> of The Constitution as further supported by the <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am9">9th and 10th Amendments </a>in The Bill of Rights, certain authorities that we individually received from our creator,  for the &#8216;privilege&#8217; of handling for us.    <strong><span style="color: #ff0000">How dare they?</span></strong></span></p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #800000"> STILL THINK THIS IS  FUNNY?</span></strong>   &#8211; - -   Not one of  these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our  nation was the most prosperous  in the world.  Prior to the FEDERAL RESERVE ACT OF 1913 and the NON-ratified ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment, by the LIAR Secretary of State Philanderer Knox and President Woodrow Wilson, in the same despotic year, the average common working man was increasing wealth at an unbelievable rate and was the envy of the world.  We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids in a loving caring family where they talked and actually had most meals together as a family.    What has happened? Can you spell usurping U.S. Congress, The Federal Reserve &#8220;System&#8221;, President(s) and Constitutionally contemptuous Supreme Court &#8220;activists&#8221; legislating from the bench?  In other words, we didn&#8217;t take care of our individual responsibilities to enforce the rule of OUR laws.</p>
<p>People, WE THE FREE, have been given our individual authority and unalienable rights by our creator.  We ‘borrowed’ <span style="text-decoration: underline">some</span> of our authority to the U.S. Government for the ‘privilege’ of handling ONLY SEVENTEEN enumerated items in <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec8">Article 1 Section 8 </a>of the LAW as We The People wrote, established and ordained on our Government to protect our unalienable rights; rights and supreme authority that were given to us by God himself.  What mere government has the right to usurp authorities that we never gave them as our servants; who are to serve us at our pleasure and who are to follow and obey the rule of law that we ordained through our individual authority that we were given by God?</p>
<p>Although there is a conflicting constitutionally contemptuous case, the Supreme Court found that the Sixteenth Amendment confers no new taxes on anyone who wasn’t taxed before it, referring to the apportionment clause with regards to direct taxes in <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec2">Article 1 Section 2</a>.  So the fact is <strong>there IS NO LAW</strong> requiring the average common working American citizen to file or pay Income Taxes.  See: <a href="http://www.truthattack.org/">www.TruthAttack.org</a>  AND, the fact is, that the IRS has NEVER, not once in even ONE SINGLE CASE, brought forth the law that compels the average working American citizen to file or pay Income Taxes into any courtroom or proved its existance to any jury in the history of American courts. </p>

<p>I present to you, in the following video, one of the most important reasons, of many, why we must FIGHT, peacefully if at all possible, but by any means necessary to FULLY restore the rule of <strong>LAW</strong>, UPON OUR U.S. GOVERNMENT, as written in The Constitution; Particularly the <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec2">apportionment clauses relating to taxation </a>that are still in full force and affect, despite the <a href="http://www.thelawthatneverwas.com/new/home.asp">16th Amendment that (besides) was never truly ratified</a>, according to Supreme Court cases, and the <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#A1Sec8">enumerated powers clauses </a>(Only <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">SEVENTEEN POWERS</span></strong> authorized by us) as written in Section 8 and supported by the <a href="http://www.usconstitution.net/const.html#Am9">9th and 10th Amendments.</a></p>
<p>ENFORCEMENT of the LAWS of the Constitution upon our U.S. Government would result, according to several experts, in the collapse of 4/5ths of our Government in size, scope and spending; leaving TRILLIONS of Dollars in our paychecks and in our economy.  Additionally the law in The Constitution states that Congress shall mint and coin money (typically gold or silver) and determine the value thereof.  This process would rid us of The Federal Reserve &#8220;System&#8221;, a cartel of twelve private banks owned by 40 mostly foreign, Internationally  Mega-powerful individuals, that has created &#8220;The MATRIX&#8221; programming in our minds that causes us to believe that a dollar is worth 100 cents when in the &#8216;real&#8217; world it is actually only worth about 2 &#8211; 3 cents;  A Matrix (economy) in our minds that, in the near future, will collapse due to natural economic forces that make it unsustainable over the long run.  Only reality, not Monopoly money printed by the TRILLIONS out of thin air, can long support economic activity. </p>
<p>Ask yourself;  How can you print a dollar out of paper and ink and then go to the market and buy refrigerators, cars, homes, furniture or make investments with nothing more than paper and ink printed up by the Trillions by a cartel of 12 privately owned banks that have <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">unconstitutionally</span></strong> &#8220;fused&#8221; in with our U.S. Government by the shady hand of President Woodrow Wilson, some unscrupulous usurping scofflaw Congressmen and the handful bankers (mostly from the old East India Trading Company BTW), in 1913,  who paid for his Presidential campaign and who for almost ten decades now made up The Federal Reserve &#8220;System&#8221; who have created &#8220;The MATRIX&#8221;? <span style="color: #0000ff"><em> Isn&#8217;t that special?</em></span></p>

<p> I&#8217;m a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you&#8217;re willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. W hat kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?</p>
<p>Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:</p>
<p> <strong>One</strong>, <strong>illegal immigration.</strong> I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I&#8217;m not a racist. This isn&#8217;t to be confused with legal immigration.</p>
<p> <strong>Two, the TARP bill,</strong> I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.</p>
<p> <strong>Three: Czars,</strong> I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.</p>
<p> <strong>Four, cap and trade.</strong> The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.</p>
<p> <strong>Five, universal healthcare</strong>. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don&#8217;t you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!</p>
<p> <strong>Six, growing government control.</strong> I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don&#8217;t you start there.</p>
<p> <strong>Seven, ACORN.</strong><strong> I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census.</strong> I want them investigated. <span style="text-decoration: underline">I also do not want mandator y escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes.</span> Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don&#8217;t trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.</p>
<p> <strong>Eight, redistribution of wealth</strong>. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why &#8212; what do you have against shareholders making a profit?</p>
<p> <strong>Nine, charitable contributions.</strong> Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.</p>
<p> <strong>Ten, corporate bailouts.</strong> Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we&#8217;ll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.</p>
<p> <strong>Eleven, transparency and accountability.</strong> How about it? No, really, how about it? Let&#8217;s have it. Let&#8217;s say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try &#8212; please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.</p>
<p> <strong>Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now</strong>.</p>
<p>Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let&#8217;s just slow down and get some input from some nonpoliticians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law. I a m not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I&#8217;m busy. I&#8217;m busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the busines s of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.</p>
<p> <strong>I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened?</strong> You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.</p>
<p> From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington . Our president often knows all the right buzzword is unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don&#8217;t want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we&#8217;re morons.</p>
<p> We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we&#8217;re so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work , pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you. You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish. We didn&#8217;t ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us who will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.</p>
<p> Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don&#8217;t care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now. We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back. We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired. Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you. If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are. If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one. We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming. We the people are coming.</p>

According to the 10th Amendment, from our cardinal laws of the land, as We The People wrote, established and ordained on all members of the U.S. Government, that makes them scofflaws subject to at least imprisonment or prosecution of treason.]]></description>

<h5>8/5/2009Thank you for listening to your constituents yesterday and Monday in Green Bay and Appleton. Listening. The operative word. Unlike media suggestions (your suggestions?), the crowds were not manufactured by shady “corporate interests,” but were caring, frustrated Americans, there to listen to you because they’re desperately fearful about the future of their beloved country – and the future we’re building here for our kids.I was moved by the passion – and I hope you were too. 300 people filled that auditorium a half hour before your meeting’s start time in both Green Bay and Appleton hearings. Perhaps next time your staff can find you a larger room, so that 300 or 400 constituents need not be locked out.As an aside sir, it’s interesting that I knew of your meeting schedule from friends and neighbors. In talking with the Steelworkers Union member (the emblem proudly emblazoned on his shirt) sitting behind me, I learned he received an email invitation from your office. You have my email sir, as I’ve contacted your office numerous times. You have my email sir, as I receive pleas for dollars from your campaign committee at the close of every campaign reporting period. Why didn’t I receive a notice of your “listening session” in Appleton?</p>
<p>Such passion Dr. Kagen. I’m not sure you got the message these caring and concerned constituents were sharing.</p>
<p>When asked how you were going to pay for any health care reform bill coming out of Congress, you said you would find $800B &#8211; $1T wasted. Wow. When asked if you will vote for health care reform if the majority of your constituents oppose the bill, you took a big sidestep – “It’s [the final bill] something that doesn’t exist yet.”</p>
<p>When a constituent said she heard the benefits of the medicine you and Congress are prescribing, now could you please share with us the side effects, you shrugged her off repeatedly, unable to “explain the whole thing because it will raise controversy.” Well, that surely is being honest, Rep. Kagen. Wow.</p>
<p>Rick Sense, writing for his “The Inside Scoop,” <a href="http://www.theinsidescoop.us/sense8409.htm" target="_blank">shares</a> further goings-on from yesterday’s gathering.</p>
<blockquote><p>Some of [Rep. Kagen’s] less than stellar moments included a claim that “the United States Senate is the real enemy” and that he believes it is “unconstitutional” for a pharmacy to be able to charge different people different prices for the same medication (ever buy a used car Rep. Kagen?). When asked if he would support healthcare legislation despite the majority of his constituents being opposed to it, he first replied, “Well, let me explain the legislative process to you,” later adding the cliché “these are complex issues” and ending his answer with, “I will vote for the best interest of our constituents.” At one point, obviously frustrated, Kagen yelled at a constituent, “How dare you!” during an exchange with a member of the audience on how to possibly help a different audience member facing the tough prospect of covering healthcare costs with her husband out of work.</p></blockquote>
<p>Yes sir, the majority of your constituents understand the need for reforms in our health care system. But no sir, the majority of your district is not in favor of huge new federal bureaucracies taking over health care in America.</p>
<p>You are well aware of those needed changes sir – and indeed have advocated for them.</p>
<ul>
<li>Incentivize self-reliance and individual responsibility. More of us must understand what our health care is costing us before we care about what health care is costing us.</li>
<li>Incentive individual responsibility via extensive price and quality transparency.</li>
<li>Incentivize wellness</li>
<li>Help us make good choices by standardizing basic health insurance policies</li>
<li>Support modified community rating and yes, require that insurance be available for those with pre-existing conditions. </li>
</ul>
<p>Hold your ground sir. You are not beholding to Speaker Pelosi or President Obama or any of your congressional colleagues. You sir, are beholding to us. The majority of your district does not want government running their health care. The majority of your district believes HR 3200 or anything like it must be scrapped and substituted with much more basic changes that will control costs in the system and build on individual – not government – responsibilities.</p>

<p>Almost half of the Americans who responded to a new poll say they have concerns about the impact of carbon dioxide on the climate, but two out of three say they have no interest whatsoever in opening their wallets to pay for any mitigation.</p>

<p>Asked whether they &#8220;believe that man-produced carbon dioxide and other so-called greenhouse gases will induce catastrophic climate change&#8221; if unaddressed, 49.6 percent of the respondents said yes. Twenty-seven percent said no, and 23.4 percent were uncertain. The concern from Democrats and Republicans was reversed with Democrats saying 10-1 yes and Republicans saying 2-1 no.</p>
<p>However, when asked if they were willing to &#8220;pay significantly higher energy bills in the hope of heading off what some scientists believe to be impending climate change,&#8221; 63.6 percent said no. That included Democrats by a margin of almost 3-1 and members of the GOP by 12-1.</p>
<p>The WND/Wenzel <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">survey</a> was conducted July 12-17 using an automated telephone technology calling a random sampling of listed telephone numbers nationwide. The survey included 16 questions and carries a 95 percent confidence interval. It included 807 adult respondents. It carries a margin of error of +/– 3.4 percentage points.</p>
<p>&#8220;This dramatizes the decades-old problem that environmental activists have had in pushing for structural change in society to accommodate fears of environmental doom – many people may agree that some long-term harm may befall humanity, but they are much more concerned about the short-term cost,&#8221; said pollster Fritz Wenzel.</p>
<p>&#8220;After an unusually cold winter followed by a summer where U.S. temperatures have been unusually mild, the urgency to act is clearly waning in the minds of many,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>Only 15.2 percent responded they are willing to pay much more, while 21.2 percent said they were uncertain.</p>
<p>Asked about the pending &#8220;cap and trade&#8221; legislation in Congress that restricts the amount of carbon dioxide and <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">water</a> vapor that can be produced – generating financial penalties for violators – only 23.7 percent of the respondents support the measure.</p>
<p>Nearly 42 percent opposed it and another 35 percent were unsure.</p>
<p>&#8220;As the U.S. Senate considers the bill, the fact that fewer than one in four Americans favors its passage should give them serious pause,&#8221; Wenzel commented.</p>
<p>The core of the opposition appeared to be the costs, but Americans also were worried about the impact on the economy from rocketing prices for gasoline, natural gas, electricity and other sources of <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">energy</a>.</p>

<p>&#8220;Nearly half – 46 percent said they think it will harm the economy. And while President Obama and other Democrats have been touting the concept of &#8216;green jobs&#8217; as the savior of the wallowing economy, few are buying it, our polling shows,&#8221; according to Wenzel.</p>
<p>&#8220;Just 17 percent said they think &#8216;Cap and Trade&#8217; will help the economy. Even Democrats are unconvinced – just 26 percent said they think it will help the economy, while an identical percentage of Democrats said it will cause economic harm,&#8221; he said.</p>
<p>There also were significant doubts about the constitutionality of the tax program and concerns about its wisdom.</p>
<p>Fewer than 25 voters out of 100 believed the plan to limit production of natural gases that are not actual pollutants, such as carbon dioxide and water vapor event, is constitutional. Nearly 32 percent said it violates the nation&#8217;s founding document, and about 43 percent were unsure.</p>
<p>Forty-five percent said it just isn&#8217;t wise for the <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">government</a> to attempt it, and 30 percent said they weren&#8217;t sure. Only 24.9 percent agreed with the wisdom of the taxing program.</p>
<p>&#8220;Even among those who voted for Obama in the November elections, less than one-third (30 percent) said they believed it was constitutional. And, among those same Obama voters, just 31 percent said they thought it was wise to try to regulate man–breathed carbon dioxide and water vapor,&#8221; Wenzel said.</p>
<p>&#8220;[It] creates a problem for the Obama <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">administration</a> at a time when his job approval rating is sinking and his legislative agenda remains packed with controversial proposals,&#8221; Wenzel said. &#8220;With the public so heavily weighted against it, to pass &#8216;Cap and Trade&#8217; may cost the Obama administration much more political capital than it can afford, especially given the looming battle over health care reform.&#8221;</p>
<p>Wenzel is president of Wenzel Strategies a public opinion research and media consulting company. Formerly associated with Zogby International, he spent 25 years as a news and political reporter for major metro dailies.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=103634">WND recently reported</a> when former Vice President Al Gore, whose &#8220;An Inconvenient Truth&#8221; video epistle on the claims of global warming has not weathered recent scientific research, promised at a conference in the United Kingdom that the impending virtual energy <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">tax</a> under the U.S. &#8220;cap-and-trade&#8221; legislation will bring about &#8220;global governance.&#8221;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=103634">Gore, </a><a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=93315">who this year famously left his Nashville mansion&#8217;s driveway brightly illuminated</a> during the &#8220;Earth Hour&#8221; event that promoted energy savings, was speaking at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">Environment</a>.</p>
<p>He said the &#8220;cap-and-trade&#8221; legislation will be beneficial.</p>
<p>&#8220;But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change, and one of the ways it will drive the change is through global government and global agreements,&#8221; he said.</p>

<p>Only a few weeks ago, <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=92557">a former NASA climatologist asserted global warming simply isn&#8217;t happening.</a></p>
<p>While so-called &#8220;global warming&#8221; was supposed to bring more and more horrific hurricanes, according to many scientists and politicians, since 2005 only one major hurricane has struck North America.</p>

Fred Singer of the University of Virginia, retired manager for <a href="http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=104619" target="_top">strategic planning</a> at ExxonMobil Roger Cohen, physics professor (emeritus) Harold W. Lewis at UC-Santa Barbara and others.</p>

<p>During Patrick Henry&#8217;s famous &#8220;Give me liberty or give me death&#8221; speech, he said the following:</p>
<p>&#8220;Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth, to know the worst and to provide for it.&#8221;</p>
<p>Later in his historic speech Henry said, &#8220;Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, Sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations, and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, Sir, is not to the strong alone. It is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, Sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable. And let it come! I repeat it, Sir, let it come!&#8221;</p>
<p>Of course, Henry ended his stirring speech with the immortal words, &#8220;Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!&#8221;</p>

<p>Many people today (including the vast majority of my Christian brethren) are doing exactly what Patrick Henry said many were doing 234 years ago: they prefer to &#8220;shut [their] eyes against a painful truth.&#8221; Just as in 1775, many today, &#8220;having eyes, see not, and having ears, hear not.&#8221;</p>

<p>If we were writing a Declaration of Independence today, in which we would &#8220;let Facts be submitted to a candid world,&#8221; the examples of federal abuse of power would be so multitudinous it would be difficult to contain them to a single document. The question is not, &#8220;Has the current federal government become tyrannical?&#8221; The question is, &#8220;How long will the States continue to tolerate it?&#8221;</p>
<p>For example, within the last couple of months, the States of Montana and Tennessee have each passed their own &#8220;Firearms Freedom Act.&#8221; Briefly stated, the bills provide that any firearms or ammunition that are manufactured, sold, and kept within the State are not subject to federal law or federal regulation. Clearly, Montana and Tennessee have the Second, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution on their side.</p>
<p>Of course, the Constitution doesn&#8217;t matter to the federal government. On July 16 of this year, BATFE Assistant Director Carson Carroll sent an &#8220;Open Letter&#8221; to all firearms dealers within the States of Tennessee and Montana, telling them in no uncertain terms, &#8220;Federal law supersedes the [Tennessee or Montana] Act, and all provisions of the Gun Control Act and the National Firearms Act, and their corresponding regulations, continue to apply.&#8221;</p>
<p>You see folks, in the minds of the politicians and bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., there is no such thing as constitutional government. There is no such thing as State autonomy. There is no such thing as balance of power. To the miscreants in Washington, D.C., there is only federal authority. To them, these States United are merely colony-subjects, who must bow to an omnipotent, ubiquitous federal power that knows no limits and no boundaries.</p>
<p>I hope and pray that the Tennessee and Montana governors, State legislatures, and State supreme courts will tell Mr. Carroll &#8220;where to go,&#8221; and will defend their State sovereignties &#8220;to the end.&#8221; And by the same token, I hope and pray that dozens more states will put teeth to their State Sovereignty resolutions and follow the examples of Montana and Tennessee.</p>
<p>Add to the continual usurpations of State sovereignty the fact that both the Republican and Democratic parties in Washington, D.C., have allowed our once-great free enterprise system to become a giant socialist economy, and the outlook only gets bleaker. This is why Republicans in D.C. have no moral credibility in opposing President Barack Obama&#8217;s Marxist-style universal health care proposals. Under George W. Bush, the Republican Party expanded socialism in America like no administration in recent history. Now they are going to oppose the Democrat version of socialism? What a joke!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The only difference between the economic policies of the Democrats and Republicans in Washington, D.C., is Democrats want to tax-and-spend America into socialism for the benefit of the Welfare State, while Republicans want to borrow-and-spend America into socialism for the benefit of the Warfare State. Neither party wants to confine Washington, D.C., to the prescribed limits of the U.S. Constitution. And neither party in Washington, D.C., is willing to recognize the constitutional authority and autonomy of the States United.</p>
<p>Given the fact that both parties are hell-bent on destroying constitutional government, dismantling State sovereignty, and trampling individual liberties, it seems painfully obvious to me that a war for State independence is inevitable. Just exactly what that means is unknown at this point, but all of the elements and ingredients that existed in 1775 exist today. In fact, in view of the battle currently taking place between Nashville/Helena and Washington, D.C., the war has&#8211;for all intents and purposes&#8211;already begun. And unlike many of my Christian brethren who want to &#8220;shut [their] eyes against a painful truth,&#8221; I say with Patrick Henry, &#8220;Let it come! I repeat it, Sir, let it come!&#8221;</p>

Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Pete Domenici, R-N.M., have introduced a bill to create a permanent commission to make recommendations on maintaining long-term financial stability for the Social Security and Medicare entitlement programs. The government recorded a $1.3 trillion loss last year, a USA TODAY analysis shows.</p></div>
<p class="inside-copy">The loss reflects a continued deterioration in the finances of Social Security and government retirement programs for civil servants and military personnel. The loss — equal to $11,434 per household — is more than Americans paid in income taxes in 2006.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">&#8220;We&#8217;re on an unsustainable path and doing a great disservice to future generations,&#8221; says Chris Chocola, a former Republican member of Congress from Indiana and corporate chief executive who is pushing for more accurate federal accounting.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">Modern accounting requires that corporations, state governments and local governments count expenses immediately when a transaction occurs, even if the payment will be made later.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">The federal government does not follow the rule, so promises for Social Security and Medicare don&#8217;t show up when the government reports its financial condition.</p>

<p class="inside-copy">Unfunded promises made for Medicare, Social Security and federal retirement programs account for 85% of taxpayer liabilities. State and local government retirement plans account for much of the rest.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">This hidden debt is the amount taxpayers would have to pay immediately to cover government&#8217;s financial obligations. Like a mortgage, it will cost more to repay the debt over time. Every U.S. household would have to pay about $31,000 a year to do so in 75 years.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">The Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Board, which sets federal accounting standards, is considering requiring the government to adopt accounting rules similar to those for corporations. The change would move Social Security and Medicare onto the government&#8217;s income statement and balance sheet, instead of keeping them separate.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">The White House and the Congressional Budget Office oppose the change, arguing that the programs are not true liabilities because government can cancel or cut them.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">Chad Stone, chief economist at the liberal Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, says it can be misleading to focus on the government&#8217;s unfunded liabilities because Medicare&#8217;s financial problems overwhelm the analysis.</p>
<p class="inside-copy">&#8220;There is a shortfall in Medicare and Medicaid that is potentially explosive, but that is related to overall trends in health care spending,&#8221; he says.</p>
